ROCHESTER, Ind. — With metaphorical checkered flags waving and a racecar theme, Fulton County extension educators gave an explanation of where Purdue Cooperative Extension Service takes the county, at the annual meeting in March.

“This is life on the road,” said Grand Marshall Dale Herrold, president of the Fulton County extension board, as he welcomed guests to a “pit stop” dinner of fried chicken and oven steak, plus sides.

Extension “crew” reports were given by Mark Kepler, extension educator; Melva Stamberger, 4-H youth development; and Kandace Evers, Family Nutrition Program.

Accompanied with slides, they described activities in the county, noting 21 horse shows last year as well as programs in schools and with individuals. Stamberger said 72 percent of 4-H members chose animal projects. Kepler discussed the emerald ash borer and predicted every ash tree will be killed unless treated.

Elected to three-year terms on the extension board were Carl Overmyer, Dave Emery, Tom Smith, Dale Herrold, Stephenia Barkman, Penny Ramsey, Rick Rock, Ellen King, Karin Fowler, Nancy Gohn, Nancy Krom, Sandy Owens, Melinda Kamp, Barry Scales and Jesse Straeter, who succeeds Sue Geib.
