Farming equipment shows strength in Schrader sale
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Tractors, combines, sprayers, potato equipment and other farm machinery drew more than 350 bidders Thursday, March 14, for an auction that resulted in total sales of $5.925 million with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company managing the sale for Lincoln Farm LLC.

More than 350 bidders from 16 different states and Canada turned out for the auction, according to Nick Cummings, who managed the auction for Schrader.

“I knew we would have a good crowd, because we had a large, high-quality inventory, and our auction provided an opportunity to obtain good equipment for less than comparable new machines would cost. As it turned out, we had bidders from as far as Canada, Maine and New Jersey, and the turnout led to a very good outcome for our seller,” said Cummings.

“It was also good timing for the farmers, because they’ll have the equipment in place in time for the current crop season. Demand was especially strong for the tractors, combines and the full line of potato equipment. Many factors point to a continuation of strong commodity prices, and that translates into more demand for quality farm equipment,” he said.

Illinois Performance Tested Bull Sale releases results
URBANA, Ill. — The Illinois Performance Tested (IPT) Bull Sale was the lead-off event of the 2013 Illinois Beef Expo held on Feb. 21 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. The sale had the third highest overall average in its 45-year history at $2,861 on 67 lots.

“This sale has developed into one of the best sources for total performance genetics in the Midwest,” said Travis Meteer, IPT sale manager. “During the past 45 years, the sale has sold 4,525 bulls valued at over 7.7 million dollars.”

There were three breeds represented in the 2013 sale: Angus, Simmental and Polled Hereford. Meteer said a yearling Angus bull set a new IPT Bull Sale record, selling for $10,000. The bull, Kramers New Standard 224, was sold by Marvin Kramer of Farina, Ill., to Harry Miller of Mossville, Ill.

University of Illinois Extension, the U of I Department of Animal Sciences, and consigning breeders sponsored the sale. Vita-Ferm, the ABS Illinois Angus Association, and the Illinois Simmental Association provided industry support.
