Pettisville FFA members receive alumni scholarships PETTISVILLE, Ohio — Taylor Kruse, daughter of Jack and Peggy, of the Pettisville FFA is the 2013 Pettisville FFA Alumni college scholarship recipient. This scholarship is given to a Pettisville FFA member to assist them in their continuing studies of agriculture. Kruse is a freshman at the Ohio State University with a double major in animal sciences-industries & agriscience education.
Her main FFA SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) projects were her rabbit enterprise and agri research. During her sophomore and junior years of high school she studied the effects of different protein percentages in fecal matter on the growth and production rates of Glycine max plants. She was named a top four National FFA Proficiency finalist in ag research – plant systems in 2012. The past three years she has competed in the National Agriscience Fair in the food products and processing systems category, placing in the top 3 two times. Kruse received her State FFA Degree and was active in parliamentary procedure, public speaking and soil judging. This spring she was named top four in the state in the area of small animal care proficiency.
She is a College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) student ambassador and member of the Alpha Zeta Partners Honorary in CFAES.
She plans to teach agricultural education or work in the animal nutrition field.
Aaron King, son of Larry and Cathy, of the Pettisville FFA is the 2013 Pettisville FFA Alumni Senior Scholarship recipient. This scholarship is given to a Pettisville FFA member to assist them in advanced schooling. King’s FFA activities include participating in general livestock, ag. mechanics and ag engineering CDE. He attended state conventions and leadership night. He was a state finalist in the beef production area and will be receiving his State FFA Degree this May.
King participates in basketball, Ohio Cattlemen’s Assoc., 4-H and Beef Expo. He will be attending Joliet Jr. College in Illinois with a major in agricultural production and management this fall.
Miami East student to compete at state Creed contest PLAIN CITY, Ohio — On Saturday, March 9, Madeline Davis competed in the State FFA Public Speaking Contest held at Tolles Technical Center in Plain City. Davis is a sophomore and first year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.
Davis competed in advanced creed speaking competition and placed fifth in her heat. She advanced to the state contest after placing second at the sub-district and second at the district contests earlier in February.
During the contest, Davis recited the FFA Creed and answered questions on her interpretation of it. The FFA Creed was written in 1933 by E.M. Tiffany. It is a requirement of all Greenhand FFA Degree recipients to learn and explain the FFA Creed. |
