COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Spring Dairy Expo took place March 28-30 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus. With shows and sales at every turn, dairy cattle of all colors were brought together for one of the first shows of the season.
Tim Abbott of Fairfield, Vt., had the job of sorting through the Red and White show that Thursday evening and chose Greenlea Advent Maemsy Red, exhibited by Richman Farms of Lodi, Ohio, as Grand Champion. Reserve Grand Champion was Macs-Acres Dy 523-Red, exhibited by McMahan Farms and Brookhollow Farms of Raymond, Ohio.
The Junior Champion of the Red and White show was Carnol Redliner Karypee-Red, the first-place winter yearling, exhibited by Doeberiener, Bowen, Heath and Davis of Ohio. Abbott tapped Starmark HP Ry Ry-Red ET, first fall calf, exhibited by Starmark Farms of Wooster, Ohio, for his Reserve Junior Champion. On the other side of the ring, Steve Hendress of West Lafayette, Ind., was the official judge of the Guernsey show. The Grand Champion and Best Udder of the show was Lavon Farms Gewels Ann, exhibited by Muffets Twin Acre of Edgewood, Ill., while the Reserve Grand Champion was GR-Silkyway Murry Naomi J, exhibited by Morning Star Farm of New London, Ohio.
For Junior Champion of the Guernsey show, Hendress picked Knapps HP Desire Jackpot Sweet, exhibited by Starmark Farms, while Knapps HP Fame Topeka, also exhibited by Starmark, was named Reserve Junior Champion.
On March 29, Hendress went back to work and evaluated the little brown cows – the Jerseys. Hope was high as Forever Hopeful Tanya, exhibited by T.J. Classic Jerseys of Ansonia, Ohio, took Grand Champion. He picked Frederick 2783 Adventure, exhibited by Lackey, Rader, Iager and Walton of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, as his Reserve Grand Champion.
In the Heifer show Milksource Tequila Vista, shown by Jacob Morgan of Urbana, Ohio, took Junior Champion honors while a Brockway, Pa., breeder, Dale Hindman, exhibited the Reserve Junior Champion, Highland -H Action Salli.
Friday evening brought two more shows in the ring, the Brown Swiss and the Ayrshires. Hendress sorted through the Swiss show and picked Rolling Knolls Agen Jerne, exhibited by Braxton Perry of North Lewisburg, Ohio, as his Grand Champion and RNR Jamboree Trinket, exhibited by Topp-View Farms of Botkins, Ohio, as his Reserve Grand Champion.
Top Acres Wonder Girl, exhibited by Top Acres of St. Paris, Ohio, was chosen as the Junior Champion and Brook Hollow Hot Tropic, exhibited by Brook Hollow Farm of West Salem, Ohio was the Reserve Junior Champion.
Abbott had the job evaluating the Ayrshire show that Friday evening. He tapped Geminaecho Remington Shellie, exhibited by Ashley Hawvermale of Wooster as his Grand Champion, and Duncan Poker Madea, exhibited by Rachel Duncan of Warsaw, Ohio, was his Reserve Grand Champion.
Tri-Line Lobo, exhibited by Walton & Thornburg of Pleasant Plain, was named Junior Champion and Geminaecho Showstar Sherry, exhibited by Hawvermale, was the Reserve Junior Champion. The Milking Shorthorn show was held March 30. Although small, it was filled with quality, according to its judge, Hendress. The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion were both exhibited by Spring Meadows of Urbana, Ohio. Grand went to Spring Meadows Spark Hatti while the Reserve was Lands Brook Calmar. Kinley Topp of Botkins took the Junior Champion Rosette with Topp-View Moonshine Alexa and Reserve Junior Champion went to Buckeye Knoll Nitro Pizazz, exhibited by Buckeye Knoll of Greenville, Ohio.
The grand finale was the Holstein show that Saturday. Abbott was given the opportunity to pick his champions from the black-and-white parade of cattle.
It was a Kolor-ful day in the ring as White-Light Gold Kolor-ET, exhibited by Menzie, Quietcove, Curran & Koster of Wapakoneta, Ohio, was tapped as Grand Champion. The Reserve Grand was Smith-Oak Glwyn Mint-ET, exhibited by Triple-T, Smith-Oak & Michael Heath of North Lewisburg.
The Junior Champion banner went to Cameron-Ridge Atwood Beauty, exhibited by Triple-T, Heath & Cummings of North Lewisburg, and the Reserve Junior Champion was Colstein Lauthority Crowecus-ET, exhibited by Bowen, Purplefever, Heath, Doeberiener of West Salem, Ohio.
The last event of the show was the choosing of the Supreme Champion Heifer and Cow from all the breeds. Supreme Champion Heifer banner went to the Holstein, Cameron Ridge Atwood Beauty, exhibited by Triple-T, Heath & Cummings, while the Supreme Champion Cow was the Jersey Forever Hopeful Tanya exhibited by T.J. Classic Jerseys of Ansonia. |
