Kentucky Corn Growers award scholarship winners
EASTWOOD, Ky. — The Kentucky Corn Growers Assoc. (KyCGA) recently selected three recipients for KyCGA scholarships: Brent Tingle, Madison Wilferd and Eric Schwenke.

Brent Tingle, of Shelbyville, Ky., is currently studying agronomy at Eastern Kentucky University. He is looking to graduate with honors and become a crop consultant. Tingle is a member of the Delta Tau Alpha Agriculture Honor Society and makes it home to Shelby Co. regularly to work as a farmhand, which he has done for nearly 10 years.

Madison Wilferd, of Farmington, Ky., is a senior at Graves County High School. She plans to study plant and soil science at the University of Kentucky and is looking to research ways to maximize crop yields with limited resources.

Wilferd has excelled academically, served as president of her school FFA chapter, and named an All-American Cheerleader, among other accomplishments.

Eric Schwenke is a senior at Larry A. Ryle High School in Union, Ky. Schwenke is planning to farm full-time with his family once he completes a degree in agriculture economics and crop science from the University of Kentucky.

Schwenke received strong recommendations from his teachers for his work ethic and outstanding attitude. He has also been a wonderful advocate for agriculture through social media.
The scholarship committee had a difficult time selecting the winners from an outstanding pool of candidates, but ultimately decided on three individuals who demonstrated a clear vision of their future roles in agriculture.

“We are proud to support passionate agriculture students so that they may achieve their career goals,” said KyCGA president Ray Allan Mackey, a farmer from Hardin Co.

“These students will likely be our future agricultural leaders, and KyCGA is committed to help cultivate their success.”
This is third year for the KyCGA scholarship program. Funds are generated by Board and Promotion Council leader contributions.
The committee selects two high school students getting ready to enter college for $1,000 awards and one current college student receiving a $2,000 scholarship.
