WOOSTER, Ohio — Spring weather had not yet sprung, but the Ohio Holstein Assoc. (OHA) held its Ohio Spring Sale in the cool temperatures at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster on April 20.

Managed by the OHA, the 67-head offering averaged $2,614. The three embryo lots averaged $2,250 and two bulls averaged $950.

Pine-Tree Planet Shelley-ET ended up as the high seller for the day at $12,000. She was a Planet daughter from the famous Wesswood-HC Rudy Missy family and was scored Very Good-86. She was bred to Jackman and consigned by Pine-Tree Dairy of Rittman, purchased by Acker Dairy Farms of Sterling, Ohio.

The second-high seller of the sale was also consigned by Pine-Tree Dairy and purchased by Acker Dairy Farm. Pine-Tree Jeeves Shelia, a three-year-old Jeeves daughter that was also classified Very Good-86, sold for $6,200.

Sliding into the third-high-selling spot was a red and white Talent daughter, Beach-Vale Talt Melanie-Red, that sold for $5,900. This Excellent-90 cow backed by seven generations of Very Good and Excellent dams was consigned by Jacob Beachy Jr. of Millersburg, and purchased by RMD Dairy of Sterling, Ohio.

Selling at $5,200 was the fourth-high seller, Pine-Tree 1937 Observ 4796. This Observer daughter was purchased by Kevin Dotterer of Sterling, Ohio, and consigned by Pine-Tree Dairy.

The final bidder at $5,000, Spring Walk Farm of Big Prairie, Ohio, purchased Neuview Shottle 443. Classified Very Good-87, she was sired by Picston Shottle-ET, was milking 97 pounds and her dam was Pine-Tree Missy Matty-ET, classified Very Good-86 from the Wesswood-HC Rudy Missy cow family. She was consigned by Trent Neuenschwander of Dalton, Ohio.

Cattle went to Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio. Steve Andrews handled the auctioneering duties while Ted Renner read pedigrees. Working the sale ring were Russell Kiko, Paul Haskins, Ken Janes, Kenneth Brown and Don Alexander.
