COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Spring Dairy Expo in Columbus March 28-30 was also the site of the Buckeye Classic Holstein, Ayrshire and Guernsey sales. This annual event highlights the work of The Ohio State University Buckeye Dairy Club students as they select, prepare and manage the sales, with the assistance of allied industry experts.

The first sale of Friday was the Buckeye Classic Guernsey, which began with semen sales and then went into 14 consignments that averaged $2,182 apiece. The high seller was Lot 1 Coulee Crest Turley Leah-ET, which went for $4,200.

When the Guernseys were finished the Ayrshire offering came up. This sale consisted of 35 consignments that averaged $1,283. Two consignments came in as the high sellers at $2,300 apiece: Lot 29 JSB-Acres Azarah, a December Kelvin, and Lot 22 Hillside Drew Blizzard, a fall Drew.

The rest of the afternoon was spent selling 56 head of Holsteins that averaged $1,822. Lot 7, Pine-Tree 1258 Larg 5474-ET was the top seller at the Buckeye Classic Holstein Sale. When the gavel fell at $4,600 she had been purchased by Lou Brown of New Bremen, Ohio.

A summer yearling, she was sired by Glen-Toctin Super Large-ET from a Very Good-86 daughter of the well-known Wesswood-HC Rudy Missy and carried a GTPI of +2259. She was consigned by Matthew J. Steiner of Rittman, Ohio.

The second-high seller at $3,150 was Lot 30, Duncan Spearmint Candy-ET, purchased by Michael Crawford of Dover, Ohio. She was a daughter of Pine-Tree Spearmint from the Excellent-90 Cavalier Finley Aspen-ET.

Randall Kiko served as the auctioneer for the day while Dru Mercer read pedigrees for the Ayrshire sale, Ted Renner read pedigrees for the Holstein sale and Blaine Crosser assisted with the Guernsey sale.

The OSU Buckeye Dairy Club managed the sales.
