LEXINGTON, Ky. — There’s no doubt dairy farming is hard work; that’s one of the reasons global animal health and nutrition company Alltech has launched the Dairy Heroes program to recognize dairy farmers who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Launched at Alltech’s Global 500 in December, the Dairy Heroes program recognizes the important role dairy farmers have in feeding a growing global population. The campaign features a Facebook page; in addition, there is a Dairy Heroes website that features content such as herd health issues and solutions, dairy industry blog postings and an ask-the-expert forum.

OAK BROOK, Ill. — Three executives from across the food and agribusiness value chain have been elected to the board of trustees of Farm Foundation.

Elected were William Buckner, CEO of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation; David Cleary, director of Global Agriculture for The Nature Conservancy; and Jerome Lyman, vice president, Quality Systems & Food Safety, McDonald’s Corp. The three new trustees succeed Greg Heying, a retail food industry consultant, Tres Bailey of Walmart and Ken Roberts of Mendolez International.

A fourth-generation Kansas farmer, new board Chair Jay Armstrong will also chair the board of directors of Farm Foundation, NFP, the operating entity of Farm Foundation. Elected as vice chair of the board of trustees was Mark Scholl, of J&M Scholl Inc., Owensboro, Ky. He will also serve as vice chair of the board of Farm Foundation, NFP.

The Board of Trustees also appointed two new members to the board of Farm Foundation, NFP. Joe Swedberg, vice president of Legislative Affairs for Hormel Foods, and George Hoffman, president and CEO of Restaurant Services, Inc., were named to succeed Sara Wyant of Agri-Pulse Communications and Greg Heying.
