Combines, yield monitors, harvest equipment focus of ag technology day

WAUSEON, Ohio — Thanks to its popularity with farmers in this area the past two years, the third annual Northwest Ohio Precision Agriculture Technology Day will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon, Ohio.

This annual event has become quite popular for farmers in the northwest part of Ohio and northeast sector of Indiana. This year’s event will focus on combines, precision harvest technology, grain handling and data collection. Sponsors at this event, such as John Deere, Ohio Ag Equipment and Archbold Equipment Case, will have their newest equipment on hand for farmers and Certified Crop Consultants to view.

"This field day can benefit growers by offering them insight on the latest technology used to harvest data while harvesting grain," said Eric Richer, Ohio State extension educator in Fulton County. "Growers can also take part in a discussion of imagery data collected with drones. Producers will also have a chance to interact and dialogue with manufacturers and their corresponding technology representatives."

In the morning, participants will hear from extension and ag industry professionals who will be discussing agronomics, technology, safety and data collection. Dr. John Fulton, OSUE’s new Machine and Precision Systems Specialist, will discuss using data telematics to make informed agronomic decisions.

Fulton County Sheriff Roy Miller will give comments on harvest safety, and Dr. Scott Shearer, chair of the OSU department of food, agricultural and biological engineering, will discuss all the latest technology used to harvest data while harvesting grain.

Ohio Ag Net’s Dale Minyo will be present to kick off their Western Ohio crop tour. And just before the lunch break, attendees will be shown imagery data collected from drones.

According to Richer, the highlight of the day might be the clinic demonstrations after lunch. Case IH, Gleaner, John Deere and Lexion representatives will all instruct farmers and CCAs on how to adjust their machine and calibrate harvest technology prior to this fall’s harvest.

"This annual day-long event will also feature discussions and demonstrations from college researchers and farm equipment, seed and technology professionals," Richer said. "The event, which is geared toward producers, certified crop consultants and anyone interested in precision agriculture, will also feature presentations from OSU’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences."

The event is free and open to the public. Call the OSU Extension office at 419-337-9210 to register by Aug. 2. Fulton County Fairgrounds is located at 8591 State Route 108, Wauseon, OH 43567.
