Education and research grants available for sustainable ag 

MONROVIA, Ind. — The North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE) recently announced four grants are open to support sustainable agriculture projects in the Midwest.
•Research and Education grants up to $200,000 for three years support teams of scientists, farmers, educators and organizations. Projects must show plans for higher farm profits, more environmental practices and a better quality of life for farmers and community. Applications are due by Oct. 23.
•Partnership grants up to $30,000 for two years fund collaboration among ag professionals and small groups of farmers and ranchers for research and teaching activities related to sustainable agriculture. Examples of projects include on-farm crop and grazing testing, developing new marketing strategies and creating new sustainable farm products. Applications are due by Oct. 30.
•Youth Educator grants up to $2,000 for 22 months to youth educators (including professional teachers, 4-H and FFA leaders, nonprofits, farmers and ranchers, home-schoolers and other youth). Projects must involve farmers or ranchers in planning and teaching. Applications are due by Nov. 13.
•Farmer Rancher grants for 22 months support solutions to specific farming or ranching problems. Projects should involve youth. This grant has three subcategories: individuals (maximum $7,500); partner, which involve two independent farmers/ranchers (maximum $15,000); and group, which is for three or more independent farmers/ranchers (maximum $22,500). Applications are due by Nov. 20.
