Jerseys dominate with Supreme Champ honors at Kentucky Fair

By MELISSA HART

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky State Fair dairy shows brought champions from across the Midwest – but when it came to selecting the Supreme Champion, only cows from Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Iowa vied for the banner.
The judges from all the shows gathered to evaluate the champions each had selected from the Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Jersey, Holstein, Milking Shorthorn and Red and White shows. A crowd gathered around the ring to watch which was to be crowned Supreme Champion of the Kentucky State Fair.
Each cow had her time in the spotlight as her pedigree and accomplishments were highlighted while each paraded through the ring. The contenders for the supreme honor were:
Ayrshire: Bricker Farms Raven Cadila, exhibited by Kurt Wolf of Epworth, Iowa.
Brown Swiss: Kruses Victor Judy, Fairdale Farm, Owenton, Ky.
Guernsey: Adams Creek MM Anisa-ET, Nicley Livestock, Parksville, Ky.
Jersey: Miss Triple T Serenity-ET, Triple-T Holsteins and Jerseys of North Lewisburg, Ohio.
Holsteins: Sunrose Jess, Sunrose Holsteins, Millersburg, Ind.
Milking Shorthorns: Innisfail Ro Lady 7088 Exp, Lattire’s Twilite Farm of Lawrenceburg, Ind.
Red and White: Winterfield Adv TemperRed, Rocky Run Farms, Greensburg, Ky.
Then it was time for the judges to evaluate each champion and when they were finished, the scores were tabulated. With the suspense of the Miss America contest, the supreme cow was announced: Miss Triple T Serenity-ET.
This wasn’t her first time in the ring, as Triple T is a Giller daughter out of a Mr. Breeze daughter and is scored EX-91 with nine generations of Excellence behind her. She was Intermediate Champion at the New York Spring Show in 2013 and was nominated as an All-American that same year.
The heifers were also featured in the Supreme Champion parade, as each of the Junior Champions were led out for the judges to examine and decide which they thought was the best of the best. The contenders for Supreme Champion Heifer were:
Ayrshire: Old Bankston Misdemeanor, exhibited by Neal Smith of Smyrna, Tenn.
Brown Swiss: Waldeck Vigor Matilda, Ariel Waldeck, Upton, Ky.
Guernsey: BHG Kupid Peppy, Brand Setter Farms of Summer Shade, Ky.
Jersey: DKG Vindication Passion, Mill Valley Farms, Sidney, Ohio.
Holstein: Sunrose Juliana, Sunrose Holsteins.
Milking Shorthorn: Molehill Zevs Bellie, Taylor Graves, Perryville, Ky.
Red and White: Milksource LD Teagin-Red, Kentucky Bluegrass Genetics, Eminence, Ky.
The judges turned in their scorecards and the winner, again, was the Jersey. DKG Vindication Passion took home the banner; she is a daughter of Vindication and was the first-place fall yearling.
