Pony reduction sale: Due to the fact our boys have gone from home and our other work, our pony herd has grown to the place where it is too much work for us to take care of. Therefore, we must reduce and sell approximately 50 head - three studs, brood mares, yearlings, geldings, weanlings.

All mares bred back, several to Watch Pocket. Beautiful colors, spots, sorrel, dapples, whites and blacks. Tack for sale too. A pony to be given away. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the afternoon. Lunch will be served – Charles E. Powell, Connersville, Ind.

Sweepstakes winner in hay at the Indiana State Fair this year was Everett VanLandingham of New Castle. He is a member of the Knightstown 4-H Club.

Research has traced an allergy – farmer’s lung – to moldy forage dusts. Symptoms include severe cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills and weight loss.

1974

It has been announced by the White House that President Gerald R. Ford will address the National Convention of the Future Farmers of America in Kansas City, Mo., during its annual convention. The address by President Ford will open the three days of business sessions, award ceremonies and contests.

During the Shelby County Fair, the same person won both the Grand Champion Barrow and the Grand Champion Steer, a first for the fair.  The young 4-Her doing so was John C. Fox, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Fox of Shelbyville, Ind.

The 1989 Junior Fair Grand Champion Steer at the Ohio State Fair has been withdrawn from competition and its title surrendered along with ribbons, banners, premiums and trophies and the Sale of Champion proceeds of $28,000.

A sale of $80.9 million worth of U.S. salted butter to the Soviet Union was recently announced by Under Secretary of Agriculture Richard T. Crowder.

As part of Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s “Opportunity Returns” program, WIU was granted $30,000 to establish the state’s first commercial-scale production field of common milkweed, parts of which can be used as non-allergenic fill in pillows and comforters.
