Heinold Hog Market opened its 19th market yesterday two miles west of Liberty, Ind., on Route 44. It will be managed by Ray Pfledder.

The yard will serve farmers in southeastern Indiana and southwestern Ohio areas.

Indiana corn crop is expected to be off 15 percent from last year, with an average yield of 74 bushels an acre, 13 bushels below a year earlier. Soybean production is expected to be 11 percent less than last year, with average yield at 23.5 bushels expected.

Cattle for sale: White face and Angus steers, 350-600 pounds 16-18 cents per pound; Holstein steers 14-1/2 cents per pound; feeder cows and heifers 10-13 cents per pound – Don Turley, Anderson, Ind.

A 200,000-ton wheat agreement between the United States and Egypt was signed recently. Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz said the total value of the agreement was $38.7 million.

Purdue University’s livestock judging team regained its winning form at the Eastern National Livestock Show in Timonium, Md. Roger E. Hunsley was the team coach and members were David Miller, Noblesville; Jerry Bailey, Mulberry; John Bushong, Waveland; Ray Kerkhof, Greenfield; James Carithers, New Castle; Jim Lease, Elnora; and Michael Swain, Arlington.

A Holstein cow belonging to Mel Schofner of Shelby County, weighing 1,400 pounds and ready to calf in January, was found dead of a shotgun blast in the farm field. The cow was valued at $400-$500.

Emge announced it is withdrawing from the proposed acquisition by Dinner Bell Foods, Defiance, Ohio. Emge officials said the agreement was canceled because the Ohio company could not close the transaction before the end of the year. Business will remain as usual at both the Anderson and Fort Branch plants.

The National Endowment for Soil and Water Conservation recently awarded David and Beverly Salomon, Churubusco, Ind., and Rick and Stacy Murdock, Murray, Ky., as winners in the national conservation awards selection.
