Indiana Soy seeks board candidates

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Time is running out for Hoosier soybean farmers interested in serving on the Indiana Soybean Alliance board of directors. Applications must be postmarked or submitted electronically by March 31.

Representing Indiana soybean farmers, the ISA board of directors is responsible for the investment of the state’s soybean checkoff funds. To be eligible to run, Hoosier farmers must sign a Director Expectation Statement and submit an Indiana Soybean Leader Profile form. ISA has four voting districts in the state, and farmers elected to the 24-member board of directors will serve a three-year term. ISA is seeking candidates to fill two open seats in each of the four districts.

Voting will take place in July by mailed ballots. Those farmers elected in July will begin serving on the ISA board of directors in December 2015.

Mosier named to Purdue Soy endowed chair

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University associate professor of agricultural and biological engineering Nathan Mosier has been appointed the Indiana Soybean Alliance Soybean Utilization Endowed Chair, continuing a partnership to develop new uses for soybeans.

The appointment was announced jointly Feb. 16 by Jay Akridge, Glenn W. Sample Dean of Purdue Agriculture, and Dave Lowe, president of the Indiana Soybean Alliance. Working with the soybean alliance, Mosier will help to lead research into new uses for soybeans such as in biofuel and in non-food products including consumer electronics.

Lowe noted Indiana soybean farmers funded the endowed chair more than a decade ago to help find new ways to make soybean farmers more profitable. Mosier has 15 years of experience in research related to biofuels and bioprocessing technology. His recent research program has focused on cellulose, but he also has worked with oil and protein from agricultural products to make industrial chemicals and materials.

Archbold Equipment names Hetterick CEO

ARCHBOLD, Ohio — Archbold Equipment Co. has named Zach Hetterick CEO of the six-store CASE IH dealership complex.

Hetterick comes to Archbold from CASE IH, where he held various roles, including parts and service manager, territory sales manager, livestock marketing manager for North America and most recently, marketing manager for High Horsepower Tractors for North America. He began his career at AGCO and also worked for Ohio CAT.

Indiana vets elect officers, honor Scott

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana Veterinary Medical Assoc. (IVMA) has elected new officers. Dr. Jerry Risser is president; Dr. James Stepusin is president-elect; Dr. Maria Cooper is vice president; Dr. Aaron Smiley is treasurer; and Dr. John Feutz is immediate past president.

The installation of officers took place Feb. 7 at the 131st annual meeting of the IVMA. Also at the meeting, it honored Dr. Jim Scott of Carmel with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Scott is a 1968 graduate of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Science.

After practicing veterinary medicine in Wyoming, he returned to Indiana and worked for 35 years in private practice as the owner of Post Pet Hospital in Indianapolis. He then transitioned from private practice to state government, serving as assistant director of the meat and poultry division of the Indiana State Board of Animal Health and, in 2007, becoming director of the division. Scott recently retired from that position.
