For sale: Registered Shetland trotting ponies. Two 2-year-old stallions, one nominated National Stake race No. 3, both nominated for Indiana 2-year-old stake race; 4-year-old gelding, win time 2:04, capable of much faster; also, 2-year-old Quarter Horse geldings – Jack McAskill, Greenfield.
Farm for sale by owner: 186 fenced acres, 61 tillable, 61 woods, 64 pasture. Small lake, on blacktop, no house, barn and garage, three miles from Clarksburg, near Lake Santee, $75 per acre. Local bank $10,000 loan to right party – William C. Meyers, Laurel, Ind.
Dr. Earl Butz, Purdue University’s Dean of Agriculture, has announced the appointment of Dr. Bernard Axelrod of Purdue as head of the Department of Biochemistry.
1975: 40 years ago

Emergency farm legislation has passed both the House and Senate – the Senate by more than the required two-thirds majority, and the House by a little short of the two-thirds required, if President Ford decides to veto the measure.
A Red Poll bull set a new record top price of $3,900 at the Sixth Indiana Performance Tested Bull Sale at Springville. Maurice Sampson of Rensselaer bought the 18-month-old son of Pinpur Broadcaster that was consigned by the Pinney-Purdue Ag Center, Wanatah.
Other noteworthy items about this bull were that he had the highest adjusted 205-day and 365-day weights of any bull in the sale, at 842 and 1,338 pounds, respectively, and $3,900 was the second highest price ever paid for a Red Poll bull at auction in the United States.
Real estate for sale: 131-acre farm in Fayette County, Ind., 107 acres tillable, six-room home and 66-by-80-foot barn, included in the price of $117,900 – Call Lingle Real Estate, Connersville.

The Ohio Cattlemen’s Assoc. recently crowned a new Ohio Beef Queen. Laura Theaker, Belmont County, will wear the crown this year. Aimee Gevy, Champaign County, was first runner-up and Leslie Ott, Fulton County, was second runner-up.
Purdue researchers have reduced the cholesterol content of eggs by feeding hens a drug commonly prescribed for humans with high serum cholesterol levels, called Lovastatin, which blocks the activity of an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis.
