FFA and 4-H hosting a R.I.L.E.Y for Safety Day at fairgrounds June 23

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — On June 23, the South Putnam, North Putnam and Cloverdale FFA chapters along with the Putnam County 4-H Junior Leaders will be hosting an agriculture safety day at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

This event is meant to honor a member of the Putnam County 4-H Junior Leaders and South Putnam FFA member, Riley Sutherlin. Riley was taken too soon due to a farming accident last summer; together, these organizations, his family and friends are providing this fun and educational opportunity to focus on safety.

R.I.L.E.Y. is an acronym meant to help all ages remember key points of farm safety: Respect; Imagine What Could Happen; Learn the Consequences; Engage in Education; and Yield for Safety. Adults and students are invited to learn about all aspects of agriculture safety, including electricity, grain bin, chemical, large equipment and many other risks common to the agriculture industry. Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. and the event will begin sharply at 9.

There is no cost for the event and lunch is included. Reimbursement to student organizations for bus transportation is available. Contact Amanda King at 765-653-9524 or aking@sputnam.k12.in.us for additional information.
