25 years ago: Pioneer Hi-Bred to help fair building renovation

1965: 50 years ago

 

James Doerstler and Rex Jarrett, Wayne County; Karen Jackson and Marilene Isaacs, Fayette County; and Tim McGuire, Randolph County, are all in a group of 66 4-H members leaving for a People-to-People trip to Europe.

A truck belonging to the Muncie Egg & Poultry Co. was involved in a fiery three-vehicle crash. The truck was loaded with 54,000 eggs, and they discovered not one of the eggs was broken or cracked.

Mr. Farmer: I have purchased the corn sheller from Leroy Rich. Operations are the same – 5 cents per bushel at the farm and 10 cents per bushel if trucked to a mill. I also have trucks available to haul ear corn to elevators and livestock trucks with Hartford Insurance – Marshall E. Lee, Rushville, Ind.

Dr. George E. Meyer, a post-doctoral research associate at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, Wooster, reported a solar grain drying system was used last fall to dry 1974-crop soybeans from 17 down to 11 percent and shelled corn from 24 to 15 percent moisture.

Midwest markets turkey review, demand fair on bagged hens and consumer-sized toms. Trading fair on frozen commodity hens at 67.75 cents and on frozen commodity 14- to 24-pound toms at 68.75 cents for October shipments.

The State Fair Commission accepted a Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proposal to help renovate the old universities building with an investment of $125,000 over the next five years.

Kokomo Grain of Kokomo, Ind., has acquired the Carroll County Hog Market.

The stockyard, previously known as Valley-Dale Stockyard, located 1/2-mile south of Burlington on Highway 29, has been reopened under new ownership as Kokomo Grain Stockyard, with Dale Burnworth managing the stockyards and Bill Butcher as his assistant.
