Agricultural Relations Council seeks Golden ARC entries NEW PRAGUE, Minn. — The Agricultural Relations Council (ARC) has issued a “call for entries” for the 2017 Golden ARC Awards. The annual competition includes 46 categories for agricultural public relations activities as campaigns and individual tactics conducted in full or partially in the year 2016. The Golden ARC Awards contest, the most prestigious awards in ag PR, honors the stellar work created by professionals in the agricultural industry. The format and requirements for the Golden ARC Awards are similar to other leading PR awards programs, based on best practices for public relations and public affairs campaigns and tactics. The Golden ARC Awards began in 1990. Categories fall into two divisions – Campaigns and Tactics. A student category is also available, with free entry to student ARC members. The categories cover the broad scope of ag public relations and public affairs activities today, reflecting the evolution of agricultural public relations and with an added focus on social media. Entries may be submitted until 11:59 p.m. EST April 15 with an entry fee of $175. Both ARC members and non-members may enter the competition. Non-members pay an additional $190 with the first entry, thereby becoming a member of ARC. The winners will receive their honors at the ARC annual meeting, June 20-22, 2017, in Sacramento, Calif. The program is open to National Chicken Council, National Turkey Federation and U.S. Poultry & Egg Assoc. members with poultry processing plants, further processing facilities, egg processing plants, hatcheries, feed mills and rendering facilities that, through the implementation of innovative and effective programs, have injury and illness rates below the industry average for three consecutive years. Based on the latest data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the poultry processing OSHA total recordable illness and injury rate for 2014 was 4.3 cases per 100 fulltime workers. The 2015 rate represents an outstanding 81 percent improvement from 1994.
