Garden school set for April 29 at Alexandria fairgrounds
 
ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — The Master Gardener Association Garden School 2017 will be April 29, from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Madison County 4-H Building, 512 E. 4th St., Alexandria, Ind. The garden school is open to the public ages 18 years and up.
 
There will be vendor booths with many different and beautiful things to admire and/or purchase. A silent auction is planned for the day with bidding closing at 1 p.m. and winners announced at 2:15 p.m.
 
There will be hands-on Make and Take workshops from 3:45 to 5:30 p.m., including a Vermi composting class; tissue paper roll wall art; and old fence wood  signs for the garden. The Make and Take classes have to be registered and paid for along with the seminar registration in order to have sufficient materials on hand.
 
The cost for each class is $5. The seminar cost is $35, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Register by April 21.
 
Informational sheets and registration forms can be found at the Purdue Extension Office in Anderson, Ousley’s Harvest Gardens in Alexandria, and the main desk at Lowe’s in Anderson and Muncie.

Applications available for Indiana Specialty Crop Grants
 
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) is accepting applications for the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, funded by USDA. These grants are available to nonprofits, producers (must impact multiple producers), academic institutions, government agencies and others to fund projects that will enhance the competitiveness of Indiana’s specialty crops. Grant proposals are due by 5 p.m. EST May 10.
