INDIANA

June 22-24: The 2017 Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association (HPOCA) National Summer Show will be at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Madison, Ind., the first time it’s ever been held south of Interstate 70. The show will display  many pieces of Oliver equipment and tractors, but other brands of tractors and equipment, garden tractors and hit and miss engines are invited. July 6-9: One of the nation’s biggest events promoting awareness and education of the American Indian culture, National Powwow XVII, will be at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds and Conference Complex, Danville, Ind. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. daily.
 
Highlights of the event include a special dance to honor veterans on July 7, a children’s powwow and a national craft contest on July 8, the crowning of the National Powwow princess, and many other interactive activities designed to educate and entertain visitors.

OHIO

June 24-Nov. 4: The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Assoc. (OEFFA) has planned 27 farm tours, workshops and events offering a multitude of experiences, including strolling through organic fields and pastures, acquiring basic homesteading skills, learning from early career growers following their farm dreams, hearing stories from Ohio’s founding sustainable farmers, grasping the ins and outs of growing food in the city and on reclaimed urban lots, scaling up vegetable production, choosing the right farm equipment and processing poultry. The next few events are:

• June 24: Urban CSA Farm Tour – Urban Greens, Hamilton County.

• June 25: Diversified Beginning Farm Tour – Homecoming Farm, Athens County.

July 8: A Women’s Tractor Operation & Safety Program, sponsored by Ohio State University Extension and Butler County Farm Bureau, will be 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Zimmer Tractor and Kubota, 461 Breaden Drive, Monroe, Ohio 45036. Participants will learn the basics of operating a compact tractor as well as safety techniques as it relates to driving, using farm equipment, and implements. Register by July 3. TENNESSEE

June 22-Oct. 26: University of Tennessee AgResearch plans field days at most of the 10 AgResearch and Education Centers in the state, offering farmers, ranchers, gardeners and the general public a chance to see research findings, learn from university and industry experts and network with peers.

June 28-29: University of Tennessee Extension will offer cattle producers a “one-stop” opportunity to learn about producing and marketing grass-fed beef at two identical Grass-Fed Beef Conferences, June 28 in Spring Hill, Tenn. and June 29 in Athens, Tenn. LOOKING AHEAD

July 11: Dreaming of managing your own green acres? The University of Tennessee Center for Profitable Agriculture will offer “Considerations for Beginning Farmers” at the Madison County UT-TSU Extension Office, Jackson, Tenn. Registration deadline is July 3. The full-day workshop is designed for those with little or no farming background.
