ILLINOIS
Aug. 12: The annual DeKalb County (Ill.) Barn Tour will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, this year showcasing barns in the Waterman-Shabbona, Ill., area. The tour is a driving tour of barn sites hosted by the DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Assoc. and the JF Glidden Homestead & Historical Center. Aug. 17: The University of Illinois’ Agronomy Day 2017 will begin at 7 a.m. at the Crop Sciences Research and Education Center South First Street Facility, 4202 S. 1st St., Savoy, Ill.

This year’s event features a tour of the Energy Farm and presentations from faculty within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and the Department of Crop Sciences. Topics include pest, nutrient, and weed management strategies, drone data, economics, water quality, and more.
College of ACES Dean Kimberlee Kidwell will speak during the noontime program.

Sept. 12-14: The American Feed Industry Assoc.’s 46th annual Liquid Feed Symposium will be in Louisville, Ky. The symposium is ideal for networking, as it is the largest and longest-running event of its kind. Additionally, a person is inducted into the Liquid Feed Hall of Fame each year at the symposium. OHIO
July 27: OSU’s Hops Pre-Harvest Field Night will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. (with dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.) at the OSU South Centers in Piketon, Ohio. Aug. 15: The Ohio Department of Agriculture will sponsor a collection for farmers wishing to dispose of unwanted pesticides from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OSU Extension Putnam County Office (gated parking lot on east side of the building), 1206 E. 2nd St., Ottawa, Ohio 45857. The pesticide collection and disposal service is free of charge. No paint, antifreeze, solvents and household or non-farm pesticides will be accepted. Aug. 21: In anticipation of the Aug. 21 solar eclipse, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Ohio, has launched a Solar Eclipse Viewing Package, including two pairs of eclipse viewing glasses along with a night of pampering accommodations; a $50 certificate towards dinner at the Inn’s renowned restaurant; and breakfast for two.
