BY EMMA HOPKINS-O’BRIEN Indiana Correspondent THORNTOWN, Ind. — On May 15, Thorntown farmer Joseph “Joe” Garst died when his tractor was rear-ended by a box truck at about 2:20 p.m. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached to confirm details before the printing of Farm World’s June 13 issue, in which an article mentioned the incident and commemorated Garst. Last Thursday, a public information officer with the department confirmed that the 2011 International box truck involved in the incident was driven by Jamar Odom of Indianapolis. Odom was treated at the scene and released by medical personnel. Investigators are still waiting on a toxicology report to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The exact cause of the wreck is still unknown. The investigation into potential criminal negligence involved in the incident is ongoing, and no charges have been filed against Odom at this time. |
