Gourmet dinner will benefit Harvest For Hunger in Ohio

SHREVE, Ohio — Holmes County Farm Bureau will host its second annual Harvest for Hunger Dinner and live auction on August 25. The meal will be hosted by Tate Farms, the Hal and Nancy Tate family, located at 11581 Township Road 516 in Shreve.

Christy Stitzlein, president of the Farm Bureau, said the purpose of the event is twofold. First, it is designed to celebrate the rich diversity of Holmes County agriculture with a locally sourced meal, with chef-inspired cuisine by Michael Jaeb. The meal will also feature local cheeses and wine, as well as products from Simply Gourmet Syrups.

Second, and more important, according to Stitzlein, the meal will raise funds to benefit the Love Center Food Pantry, which will oversee the distribution of funds raised to other Holmes County pantries and meal programs.

Stitzlein said Farm Bureau members have stepped up to provide several unique items for the live auction, as well. Highlights will be a Holmes County Local Food basket, meat from Shreve Meats, a live Christmas tree and wreath from Sycamore Tree Farm and an Ohio State basket.

The evening kicks off at 4:45 p.m. with a tour of the Tates’ farming operation, followed by hors d`oeuvres and wine tasting at 5:45 and the meal at 6:30. The cost for the evening is $100 and reservations may be made by calling the Farm Bureau at 330-263-7456 or visiting ofbf.org/events/harvestforhunger

Stitzlein added that seating for the event is limited, so reservations need to be in by August 18.
