Wilson Trailer, Performance Ag team up for new location

FRANKFORT, Ind. — This spring, Wilson Trailer Co. opened a new facility to deal and service trailers in Frankfort.

In April, Wilson – a national company based in Sioux City, Iowa – moved into its new digs at 1515 S. CR 800 W, just east of the State Road 28 exit off Interstate 65. This branch serves Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

Sales representative James Sierey said the new facility has helped the company better service its customers. “Wilson Trailer, we’ve been on the block for a while,” he explained. “We were established about 1890, so we’ve been around for a while and in the ag industry.

“It’s nice to have a new location that’s just ours – our own footprint here in Indiana. Customers have given a bunch of positive feedback on it as well – it’s easier to get to, easier to navigate the lot – so we’re just here to help service customers and the new location has worked out well so far.”

Sierey said the newly constructed shop and facility were part of an effort by Wilson to really place its footprint in this state. The branch is the first Wilson has in Indiana that was built specifically for the company.

“The old facilities were fine at the time, but we’ve grown,” he said. “We sort of outgrew where we were, and we wanted to update and move. It’s worked out well for us so far.

“It’s super easy to come in right off the interstate, we’ve got a really nice shop, which makes it easy for our guys to get trailers in and out of and easier for us to service trailers in. The parts department is bigger and a lot easier to organize.”

Wilson was able to team up with Performance Ag to purchase the land; their facilities are now only a parking lot away from one other. Performance Ag is a diversified custom agricultural equipment and seed dealer that, coincidentally, Sierey said was looking for commercial land at the same time as Wilson.

“At about the same time we were doing this, Eric Frank at Performance Ag was looking to purchase some land too. So, we looked for a spot together and found this.

“We came in together as a deal and said, ‘Hey, we can get this much ground,’ and he wanted so many acres and we wanted so many acres, and so when it came to buying the ground and purchasing it, we did kind of work with him on that in order to get moved up here and everything,” Sierey noted.

He said Wilson also has much more area on the lot to park trailers in the new space, whereas it was always really cramped before. “To have more space to park trailers and everything has been really nice, as well.”

Wilson and Performance Ag are currently accepting trailers and other implements to be serviced, and are selling their own lines.

“The biggest thing we do is grain hoppers, livestock Gooseneck and semi-trailers,” Seirey said. “Flatbeds, step-decks and belt trailers, as well. So that’s our bread and butter – we work on a few other random odds and ends, but that’s mostly what we see here.”
