Views and opinions: Spiritual blessings for you, and not just your neighbor

Ephesians 1:3 — “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ …”

Have you ever received a gift and later found out it wasn’t for you after all?

I saw the FedEx truck turn into our lane while home for lunch. Who ordered something this time? I wondered. It isn’t strange for delivery trucks to show up at our door.

This time, to my surprise, the deliveryman handed me a long package and announced that someone had sent me flowers. My heart leapt as I automatically assumed Dad must have ordered me a bouquet. So imagine my disappointment when I noticed our neighbor’s name – a first name she shares with me – on the box.

I sheepishly revealed the error to the FedEx guy, who reclaimed the box. He apologized profusely before turning his white van around and heading back down the lane in a cloud of dust.

God has a whole storehouse of spiritual blessings. These gifts are presented to anyone who believes in Jesus. Some may be tempted to think God’s greatest blessings are only available for those who are considered the clergy, full-time missionaries or some other super-spiritual saint.

Those blessings are not for me. They are for my next-door neighbor, who has more right to them than I do, a misinformed new believer may mistakenly think. But this could not be farther from the truth.

All believers in Christ have full access to every spiritual gift that God has to offer, and we can reach out and claim them. Some of the spiritual blessings available to all believers are as follows:

We are children of God.

Our Father planned for our salvation before the world’s creation.

He makes us blameless in His sight.

He forgives our sins and grants freedom from guilt through Christ’s blood.

He has given us the Word of Truth to explain the great mystery of His will.

He has given us the inheritance of heaven.

He has marked us as His with the Holy Spirit.

These and many other blessings are ours to enjoy forever because we belong to our Heavenly Father.

There may come a day when the FedEx truck will mistakenly deliver a package to your home. But when it comes to God’s gifts, you will never need to fear the discovery that they are meant for someone else.

Every spiritual blessing in Christ was planned and delivered with you in mind, dear child of God. So open the package and enjoy. These gifts and many more are all for you!
