Illinois county farm bureau chapter prepares ‘Fun Day’

By DEBORAH BEHRENDS
Illinois Correspondent

SYCAMORE, Ill. — DeKalb County Farm Bureau is making plans for its annual Family Fun Day from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 19. Family Fun Day is open to DeKalb County Farm Bureau M and A+ members and their families.

The fun begins with some old-fashioned games on the Farm Bureau grounds located on Prairie Drive, Sycamore. Family members can test their skills and challenge one another at shooting hoops, pitching a softball, throwing a football, aiming for a bucket or making a hole-in-one. These are just a few of the 20 games designed for all ages.

For the younger set, there’s also a chance to ride a pedal push tractor, fish for a duck in the duck pond or have their face painted with special designs. If that’s not enough, Peabody the Clown is back and bringing another clown along to offer uniquely shaped balloons - guaranteed to put a smile on the youngest of faces.

New this year are pony rides. Shabbona Pioneers Saddle Club 4-H members are bringing their ponies to provide rides for the kids.
The Fun Fair of family games takes place on the Farm Bureau lawn. Once families have completed the games they may bring their game cards to the prize booth for an assortment of prizes. The grand prize will be a new bicycle.

“Once again my family is looking forward to Fun Day,” said Ingrid Friedlund, chairman of Farm Bureau’s Family Events Committee. “It’s an entertaining evening complete with games, good times and simple family fun.”

When families are ready to take a break from the games they can enjoy a picnic-style meal in the auditorium of the Farm Bureau Building. From 5-7 p.m. a pork chop or hamburger meal will be served by Fay’s BBQ catering service. The meals consist of two pork chops or one hamburger, applesauce, baked beans, cole slaw, roll, ice cream and beverages.

Tickets for Family Fun Day are $8 for the two pork chop meal and $6 for the hamburger meal. Ticket price includes the meal and all the festivities.

Tickets must be purchased by members no later than Monday, July 16 at the Farm Bureau office. No tickets will be sold at Fun Day.
The Farm Bureau Family Events Committee is sponsoring this event in cooperation with Farm Bureau committees/directors, commodity organizations, 4-H clubs, affiliated companies and building offices that will provide games for all to enjoy.
