Riley represents Parkway FFA at state contest
WOOSTER, Ohio — Brandon Riley represented the Parkway FFA at State competition in outdoor power and equipment on Friday, April 24 at Ohio State University ATI in Wooster, Ohio.

Riley completed nine different stations to help him place 10th in the state of Ohio. The nine stations included measuring, part identification, tool and fastener identification, starter assembly, plastigage, assembly of different engine parts, trouble shooting station where Brandon had to find the problems, a written test, and he had to look  up part numbers for the parts. Riley received a plaque for placing tenth.

GROWMARK names scholarship winners
CHICAGO, Ill. — Thirty-eight college students from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will be able to continue their education with help from the regional agricultural supply cooperative, GROWMARK.

They are recipients of GROWMARK-sponsored scholarships aimed at promoting higher education in agriculture and business.

GROWMARK has been supporting college students with scholarships since the early 1960s. Today, they are awarded to students majoring in agriculture or accounting at 15 universities and colleges. Each educational institution is responsible for the selection process and awarding scholarships.

Students receiving scholarships are listed below: Heather Miller, daughter of Robert and Kathi Miller of Bloomington, Ill., will attend Illinois College, majoring in communications and political science; Tyler Lyons, of Sidell, Ill., Calahan Mallaney, of Kankakee, Ill., Katie Miller, of Morton, Ill., Heather Pierson, daughter of Dale and Tina Pierson of Elburn, Ill. and Sarah Siefker, of Monee, Ill., will attend Illinois State University; Jordan Timberlake, of Mt. Carmel, Ill. will attend Murray State University; Kimberly Donaldson, of Kentland, Ind., will attend Purdue University; Leslie Frost, of Louisville, Ill., Mary Kate Huebener, of Brighton, Ill., Sarah Jo Timmons, of Seneca, Ill., and Kristen Woods, of Newton, Ill. will attend Southern Illinois University.

Mitch Heisler, of Warsaw, Ill., the recipient of the Herndon Scholarship, established to honor Fred E. Herndon, president of a GROWMARK predecessor company from 1931-1959 will attend the University of Illinois

Other students attending the University of Illinois include Chelsi Rhodes, of Thomasboro, Ill., Mark Smith, of Earlville, Ill., Dorothy Spencer, of Yale, Ill., and Adam Tallcott, of Mendon, Ill., who is the recipient of the Jonathan Baldwin Turner Scholarship. GROWMARK sponsors the scholarship to honor Melvin E. Sims, president of GROWMARK, Inc. from 1959-1980.

Attending the University of Wisconsin – Platteville are Carlee Bocker, of Lanark, Ill., Curtis Goeke, of Dakota, Ill., and Drew Nesemeier, of Milledgeville, Ill.

Attending Western Illinois University include Jake Bonnell, of Amboy, Ill., Rachel Knisley and Bryan Schullian, of Quincy, Ill.

Miami East names September Member of the Month
FLETCHER, Ohio — The September Miami East FFA Member of the Month is Christine Shoe, daughter of Chris and Cathy Shoe of Fletcher.

Shoe is a fourth-year member of the Miami East FFA Chapter and a senior at Miami East High School.

She has participated in FFA programs like Food Science and Technology Contest, Ag Day, and Farm Safety Day.
At the 2009 Miami County Fair Christine exhibited the Reserve Champion Single Fryer Rabbit. Christine has exhibited rabbits at the county fair over the past three years. Each year she has learned and participated more.

Every month of the school year the Miami East FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities.
