Tractors attract global interest
NOKOMIS, Ill. — On Oct. 24, 2009, outside the small town of Churubusco, IN, a crowd of 2,000 people from across the United States and world gathered to watch what many called the “The Tractor Auction of the Year,” in which one tractor brought $288,750.
Auction attendance included people from 27 different states and eight different countries.
The Gary Parker website had more than 24,000 unique visitors to the site, including 76 different countries.The two-day event had 850 registered bidders. The auction started on Friday with a great collection of tractor literature and “A Collector’s Social” where more than 300 people enjoyed a meal prepared by the Wesley Chapel Church. More than 180 lots of antique tractors, parts and engines sold on Saturday to a packed house with standing room only.
“When there’s that many people in a room packed together, waiting for the auction to begin, you can really start to feel the excitement. By the time we were really ready to start, it was standing room only with people crowding one another to get a look at who’s bidding and writing down prices in the catalog,” Aumann said.
Highlights from the auction included: 1912 45 Mogul tractor, which sold for $288,750; 1917 IHC 20 HP Type C, $147,000; Hart-Parr 30-60, $147,000; Advanced Rumely F 15-30, $115,500; Aultman-Taylor 30-60, $94,500; Minneapolis Threshing Tractor 22-44, $89,250; Galloway Farmobile $173,250; Minneapolis-Moline UDLX, $110,250; Waterloo Boy N, $78,750; J.I. Case 20-40 $68,259; Massey Harris #2 Cross motor $89,250; IHC Mogul 10-20 $52,500; Gray 22-40, $89,250; Emerson Brantingham Model L $57,750; and a Kardell Utility, $78,750.
