CHICAGO, Ill. — CME Group announced Monday it completed its acquisition of the Kansas City Board of Trade (KCBT), the leading futures market for hard red winter (HRW) wheat.

The acquisition will provide both CME and KCBT customers with greater capital efficiencies, new trading opportunities and additional products to manage their global wheat price risk, according to CME.

“The addition of KCBT to CME Group will provide significant value to the customers, shareholders and members, beginning on day one,” said CME Group CEO Phupinder Gill.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas of Cheyenne has been re-elected to a second term as chair of the House Agriculture Committee.

Oklahoma’s senior Congressman announced last week the House Republican Conference reelected him to the post. A farmer and rancher from western Oklahoma, the Republican was reelected last month to an 11th term in Congress.

Lucas has said getting a new five-year farm bill passed is one of his top priorities. He also touted the committee’s oversight of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, USDA and Environmental Protection Agency to ensure producers aren’t being burdened with bureaucratic red tape.

WINDFALL, Ind. (AP) — Construction crews are hustling to beat a Dec. 31 deadline to finish 125 turbines for a wind farm that is eventually planned to reach into four central Indiana counties.

Project developer E-on Climate & Renewables needs to have the turbines up and running before current federal tax credits for wind energy expire. Crews are working overnight to finish building 69 turbines in eastern Tipton County and 56 in northern Madison County.

Project manager Andy Melka told the Kokomo Tribune crews are only working at night because the winds are calmer. He said 75 of the electricity-generating turbines have been completed. Nearly 200 more turbines are planned in Howard and Grant counties in later phases.

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. (AP) — Homeowners living near a closed golf course in central Indiana are fighting plans by its new owner to use much of it for farming.

Most of the 158 acres that made up the Yule Golf Club in Alexandria was sold in October to Yorktown farmer Dale Rinker for nearly $1 million. The Herald Bulletin reported the golf course surrounds the Yule Estates neighborhood on three sides and residents say they’re worried about possible lowered property values if it’s replaced with farm fields.

An Alexandria zoning board last month turned down Rinker’s request for permission to use the property for agriculture in the city about 40 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Rinker said he wants to appeal the decision.

CAMBRIDGE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have identified a man killed and a 9-year-old girl injured when a tractor they were on rolled in central Iowa recently.

The Des Moines Register reported the accident happened Nov. 24 near Cambridge. Story County Sheriff’s Capt. Barry Thomas said 42-year-old Noel Shepley was pronounced dead at the scene. Shepley’s 9-year-old daughter, who was also riding the older-model tractor, was pinned and had to be freed when deputies arrived.

Thomas said an autopsy was scheduled for Shepley. He said Shepley’s daughter was conscious and alert as the tractor was pulled off. She was flown to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Preliminary reports show the tractor’s tires may have dropped off the road, causing it to roll.
