Michigan teams place high at state meats judging contest
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Centreville FFA and St. Joseph County, Mich., 4-H teams successfully competed at the Michigan State FFA and 4-H Meats Judging Contest held at Michigan State University on April 19. The 4-H senior division A team was the high scoring team overall and placed first in the contest. They will represent the state of Michigan at the National 4-H contest to be held in Manhatten, Kan., in November. Members of the first place team were Austin Pueschel, Jenna Beeker and Clay Decker. The team placed first in beef quality and yield grading and first in question classes. The St. Joseph County B team placed third overall in the contest, but was first in the retail ID class. Members of that team were Courtney Yeager, Mark Trowbridge and Ty Cool. All six of the St. Joseph County seniors placed in the top ten individually in the contest. Both teams had perfect scores in pork carcass judging.

The St. Joseph County 4-H junior A team placed first overall in the junior division of the contest. That team included Ben Littlefield, Brady Littlefield and Renee Souva. They placed first in questions and retail ID, and had a perfect score in beef retail porterhouse judging. The Junior B team placed second in the contest, but were first in beef carcass. Members of that team were Cole Decker, Wyatt Cool and Shelby Souva. All six team members were in the top seven individuals in the junior 4-H division.

The FFA team from Centreville placed second overall in the contest, and earned a gold award. Members of that team were Jenna Beeker, Mark Trowbridge and Austin Pueschel. Pueschel placed second individually in the FFA contest. The team had a perfect score in pork carcass judging  

Coaching the teams were Sally Stuby and Melissa Souva. Chaperones assisting the teams were Eva Beeker and Brian Decker,  Ken Klopfenstein of Klopfenstein & Ware Processing assisted with training.
