Two barrow shows and two grand champions coming from the same family! Mark Pickering of Henry County, Ind., recently had the Grand Champion 4-H Barrow at the Henry County Fair and his sister, Ava, had the Grand Champion Barrow at the Rushville District 4-H Barrow Show held at Rushville. George and Elsie Pickering of Lewisville are the proud parents of these two 4-Hers.
Complete dairy dispersal sale of the Glen Walker and Philip Parker herd of Carthage, Ind., consisting of 31 cows 4-7 years; 21 bred heifers; and 18 young heifers, 6 weeks to 6 months. Cattle are Holsteins, Guernseys and Ayrshires – Hoyt Vanderbeck, Maurice Byrket, Auctioneers.

E. Kahn’s Sons, Inc. and the Cincinnati Union Stock Yards Co. announced the hog market in Cincinnati will be closed Oct. 1.
Brian Gray, 14-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Gray of Mays, Ind., exhibited the Grand Champion Steer at the past Rush County 4-H Fair. Brian’s steer was a Hereford.
He also showed Hampshire swine.
Ciba-Geigy Corp. announced that Funk Seeds International, Inc. had become its wholly owned subsidiary as the result of a merger of Funk and a Ciba-Geigy subsidiary.

The first confirmed location of giant hogweed in Indiana at a farm near Warsaw has raised fears the noxious plant may be spreading across the state. The next nearest location for this species is in northeastern Ohio.
Secor, Ill., grain elevator, located in Woodford County, is celebrating its 100th year of operation for serving farmers in the community.
The cooperative serves as the town’s business hub, meeting place and farm gossip clearinghouse, and is now under ownership of Grainland Cooperative.
