Hands can strike out, gently touch, help someone up

Verses from Mama

Isaiah 41:13. "For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’

I have always had a fascination with hands. For some reason I take special notice of this important part of a person’s body. I believe you can tell a lot about someone from his or her hands. Some peoples’ hands are very soft and well taken care of. Others have work-worn hands that often indicate the type of work they do. Those with grease stains probably work with cars or equipment, while those with dirt under the fingernails may be gardeners or farmers.

You can also deduce a lot about peoples’ personalities from looking at their hands. Some people bite their fingernails, indicating a nervous tendency. Then there is the person who grabs your hand for a handshake and just about squeezes the blood out of your arm – definitely the controlling type. And what about the soft and gentle hand of a mother? This is surely an extension of her tender heart.

There are hands that reach out and gently touch those who are hurting, hands that strike out to hurt those in their way, and hands that reach out to steady you when you are about to fall – all kinds of hands for all kinds of people.

Of all the things that this important part of the body can do, probably one of the best is to be able to hold the hand of a loved one. In that special touch one can feel cared for, comforted when sad, or strengthened when weak and tired.

That is why I am glad that God says He will hold my right hand. I never have to fear. I never have to feel alone. The Lord God of heaven reaches down His strong and mighty hand to take yours and mine. When holding His hand we never need to be anxious about the future. He will lead us where He wants us to go. He will pull us up when we fall. He will correct us and protect us.

The qualities of strength, love, care, correction, and safety – they are all within God’s hands. He is reaching out to you. Grab His hand – He will never let you go.
