ILLINOIS
Aug. 12: The annual DeKalb County (Ill.) Barn Tour will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, this year showcasing barns in the Waterman-Shabbona, Ill., area. The tour is a driving tour of barn sites hosted by the DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Assoc. and the JF Glidden Homestead & Historical Center. Aug. 17: The University of Illinois’ Agronomy Day 2017 will begin at 7 a.m. at the Crop Sciences Research and Education Center South First Street Facility, 4202 S. 1st St., Savoy, Ill. This year’s event features a tour of the Energy Farm and presentations from faculty within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and the Department of Crop Sciences. Topics include pest, nutrient, and weed management strategies, drone data, economics, water quality, and more. College of ACES Dean Kimberlee Kidwell will speak during the noontime program. Lunch tickets ($8) will be available for purchase.

INDIANA
Aug. 3: An Indiana Department of Transportation, sponsored by the Jay County Farm Bureau, will host a meeting titled Don’t Assume; Know the Rules at 6:30 p.m. at the BUBP Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Ind. An Indiana State Police officer will be available to answer any questions, especially about driving personal-use vehicles  and grain trailers. For more details,call Nancy Cline at 260-251-0266.

Aug. 18: Pro-Soil Ag Solutions hosts its annual Indiana Growers Field Day beginning at 8 a.m. at Ron Small Farms, 5505 S. Monroe School Road, Monroe City, Ind. 47557, which is about 12 miles southwest of Washington, Ind. There will be field tours, guest speakers, grower testimonials, and a complimentary meal following.

Aug. 1-17: The Iowa State seed conditioning and quality testing workshop are available in the pilot plant at the ISU Seed Science Center in Ames, Iowa. The remaining workshops are:

KENTUCKY
Aug. 1: The Indiana Department of Transportation and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are hosting public meetings regarding the I-69 corridor and are studying plans to construct an improved Ohio River Crossing between Evansville, Ind., and Henderson, Ky. INDOT and KYTC are sharing updates on the project website and holding public meetings on both sides of the river. A meeting is set for 5-7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Henderson Community College in Henderson, Ky. OHIO

Aug. 15: The Ohio Department of Agriculture will sponsor a collection for farmers wishing to dispose of unwanted pesticides from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the OSU Extension Putnam County Office (gated parking lot on east side of the building), 1206 E. 2nd St., Ottawa, Ohio. The pesticide collection and disposal service is free of charge. No paint, antifreeze, solvents and household or non-farm pesticides will be accepted. Aug. 21: In anticipation of the Aug. 21 solar eclipse, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Ohio, has launched a Solar Eclipse Viewing Package, including two pairs of eclipse viewing glasses along with a night of pampering accommodations; a $50 certificate towards dinner at the Inn’s renowned restaurant; and breakfast for two.
