UK to hold first equine digital photograph contest

By Jordan Strickler
Kentucky Correspondent

LEXINGTON, Ky – The University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs has announced that it will be launching its first equine-oriented digital photography contest. Both college students and the general public are encouraged to participate.
The contest will contain three age groups: youth (17 and under), UK students and open (18 and over), and is looking for original photographs that capture horses in any discipline as well as photos that include horses interacting with people or in a farm landscape setting.
“We are excited about the photography contest as we are always in need of a variety of equine photos to use and we hope that this will help us to add to our database of photos to use in the future as well as showcase the talent of those that submit entries,” said Kristen Wilson, Academic Coordinator for the Equine Science and Management Program, in an email. “The entries will be judged by UK Ag Equine Programs faculty and staff with photography experience as well as some local photographers,”
Entries will be judged from March 1-5. At the conclusion of the contest’s entry deadline, each division’s top three images will be published on the UK Ag Equine Programs’ Facebook page for a “People’s Choice Award.” Votes for the award will be determined by the number of likes that each image receives by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, March 12.
Prizes will be awarded to category winners of each age division as well as the opportunity to be featured in the program’s monthly newsletter, The Wildcat Canter, and other UK publications.
For more information regarding the rules and how to enter, visit https://equine.ca.uky.edu/ or follow UK Ag Equine Programs’ Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Questions can be directed to  equine@uky.edu.
Submissions will be accepted through Feb. 28.
