EDGERTON, Ohio – A lifetime collection of farm machinery, tools and household goods of the late Carl and Janet Vollmer, along with remaining items from Vollmer Implements, Inc., was offered by United Edge Real Estate and Auction on Aug. 10. The 915-lot online auction featured vintage Allis-Chalmers equipment, including 5020, WC, WD, and WD-45 tractors, along with Allis-Chalmers parts, lawn and garden equipment, and antiques. The auction’s top bid went to a 1963 Allis-Chalmers D-17 Series III, which brought $6,100. The operating-condition tractor, which had been repainted by Carl Vollmer and his brother, was equipped with an Allis-Chalmers 400 loader, three wheel weights on each side, 6.5-16 front tires and 16.9-28 rears. Second place, at $2,900, went to an electric E-Z-GO golf cart, in good shape, with brand new tires, a split windshield, seating for four, and a rear seat that doubled as a work bed. The first of eight vintage tractors secured third place, going for $2,750. It was an operating 1983 Allis-Chalmers 5020 with 2,330 hours, equipped with a diesel engine, 3-point hitch, 540 PTO, 20x8-10 front tires and 13.6-16 rear turf tires. Close behind, at $2,600, was an operating 1951 Allis-Chalmers WD with unlisted hours, outfitted with power steering and like-new 5.50-16 front tires and 13.6-28 rears. Bids remained at four figures for two other tractors, including a 1950 J.I. Case VAC that fetched $1,825. It was equipped with a loader, 5.00-15 front tires and 12.4-28 rear tires on 11-inch rims. Meanwhile, an operating 1951 Allis-Chalmers CA with belt drive, 540 PTO, 5.00x15 front tires, and 11.2-24 rears brought $1,100. Winning bids on the remaining vintage tractors dropped under $1,000, including $830 offered for a 1947 Allis-Chalmers B (with a 1946 plaque) outfitted with a 72-inch Woods L306-AC mid-mount mower, 4.00-15SL front tires and 9.5-24 rears. Bids hit $610 on an operating 1944 Allis-Chalmers WC with a 540 PTO, two rear wheel weights on each side, 5.50-16 front tires and 14.9-28 rear tires. The bones of a 1948 Allis-Chalmers C – with frame, fenders, hand-crank starter bracket, gear shift assembly, steering wheel column, single front-wheel steering, rear axle, and other parts – were picked up for $455. With the vintage tractors covered, the auction shifted to farm and utility equipment, where trailers drew some of the stronger action. A 2014 United Trailers 6-by-12-foot XLV enclosed V-nose single-axle cargo trailer changed hands for $2,650. It was rated at 2,990-pound GVWR and offered a Dexter axle, rear ramp door, side entry door, wood-lined interior with D-rings, interior light, manual tongue jack, safety chains, 15-inch wheels and Carlisle ST205/75R15 tires. Then, a Big Tex Model 355A single-axle utility trailer with ramp gate, hammered at $2,450. It had a wooden deck, side rails, rear mesh ramp gate, side-mounted spare tire, Atwood coupler rated for a 2-inch ball, safety chains, RAM 2000-series trailer jack with 2,000-pound lift capacity, and Goodride ST205/75R15 tires and a matching spare. Bidding was more modest on the remaining farm equipment, including an Allis-Chalmers three-bottom moldboard plow with disc coulters that sold for $265. The pull-type plow had circular disc coulters and a Goodyear Suburbanite Super Cushion 7.50-14 tubeless tire on a steel wheel. Three pieces each sold for $260: a Servis Model R900 heavy-duty three-point tractor scraper blade with an adjustable angled rear blade; a McKee Sno-Lander PTO-driven three-point tractor snow blower with rotary auger and adjustable discharge chute; and a Demco tow-behind boom sprayer with polyethylene tank, folding boom arms, and a Remco Model 90-3313-1E1-82B-SB ProFlo 12V pump rated at 3.2 GPM/60 PSI. It also came with a pressure gauge, LDR ball valve assembly, hand-sprayer wand, and Goodyear 13-by-5.00-6 tubeless tires mounted on red steel rims. Parts and accessories ranged from vintage equipment components to more modern pieces, with a vintage tractor front-end loader manure fork attachment among the leaders at $210. The heavy-duty steel attachment had seven front-pointing tines, mounting brackets and pin receivers for use with a compatible tractor loader or skid steer. An Allis-Chalmers WD/WD45 engine cylinder liner and piston rebuild kit brought $130. The package included an aluminum piston, cast cylinder liner, piston rings and two rubber O-ring seals, and the original corrosion-inhibiting packaging and a handwritten note identifying compatibility. A pair of Goodyear Traction Torque 16.9-28, 6-ply rear tractor tires mounted on white steel wheels sold for $87.50, while an antique pair of Allis-Chalmers WD/WD45/D17 rear wheel weights hit $65. Bidders also took home dozens of antiques and collectibles, many with agricultural connections. Among those was a vintage Voris Seeds jumbo dial advertising thermometer from Windfall, Ind., which landed $125. The circular thermometer featured the Voris Seeds name, the byline, “The Original Jumbo Dial by the Ohio Thermometer Co. Made in U.S.A.” along with listings for corn, soybeans, wheat and forages. Later, a vintage Wheel Horse Lawn and Garden Tractors plastic sign sold for $90. The 30-inch single-sided sign featured the Wheel Horse logo and red lettering on a white background. |
