WINDFALL, Ind. – After more than six decades of farming, John and Judy Hussey retired at age 82. Cripes Auction Service handled their farm retirement sale Aug. 6-22, presenting 148 lots of late-model John Deere equipment, implements, trucks, trailers and construction machinery.

The Husseys attention to their equipment was evident in seven items reaching six figures. Leading things at $271,500 was a 2020 John Deere 8RT370 track tractor with 1,228 hours. The well-equipped tractor featured a JD PowerTech 9.0L engine, AutoPower IVT transmission with right-hand reverser, 6-1/2-inch premium rear remotes with SCVs, CAT 4 drawbar, CAT 4N/3 three-point quick hitch, 18-inch Camso AG 6500 tracks, polyurethane mid-rollers, radar with dual-beam sensor, cold-weather start kit, StarFire 6000 integrated receiver, and GEN 4 4600 CommandCenter.

Second highest was a 2022 John Deere DB60 36R20 planter with 6,256 acres, bringing $255,000. It offered options like a MaxEmerge 5E package, three-section frame, Connect Mobile readiness, JD Link hardware, tractor-attaching components for 9R, 9RT and 9RX tractors, Category 4 drawbar hitch, electric drive with planter power generation, electric-drive MaxEmerge 5E meters, heavy-duty wing wheels, Tru-Vee openers with single walking standard gauge wheels, individual-row hydraulic downforce, and SeedStar 4 HP Monitor System.

Hitting $215,000 was a 2022 John Deere S780 STS combine with 1,539 engine hours and 1,227 separator hours. It had a GEN-4 4600 CommandCenter, ProDrive transmission with HarvestSmart feeder control, power rear axle, two-speed four-wheel drive, five-speed drive hydraulic fore-aft tilt with 3.50-inch lift cylinders, round-bar concaves, a 28.5-foot unload auger, ActiveYield Plus moisture and yield sensors, deep-tooth adjustable chaffer and bottom sieve with TouchSet, power-folding grain tank covers, deluxe residue fine-cut chopper, and Advanced PowerCast tailboard.

Earlier, a 2013 John Deere 8335 tractor with 2,900 hours brought $177,000. It was equipped with a JD PowerTech PSX 9.0L pre-def engine, AutoPowr IVT transmission, 1000 PTO, 60-GPM hydraulic pump, five remotes, quick hitch with sway blocks, front and rear duals, CAT 4 adjustable swinging drawbar, and premium lighting, Premium CommandView II cab with Active Seat, touchscreen GS3 CommandCenter, and dual-beam radar sensor. A similarly equipped 2013 JD 8335R with 3,420 hours reached $169,000.

Another $169,000 bid won a 2021 John Deere R4038 self-propelled sprayer with 889 hours. Its equipment included a GEN 4 4600 CommandCenter with extended monitor, premium CommandView III cab, Solution Command system, 120-foot steel boom, 15-inch on-center nozzle spacing, fence-row nozzles, under-frame shields, stainless-steel plumbing, auto-leveling system with five sensors, boom air-purge, Motec camera, and LED lighting. The auctioneer noted 2023 damage repaired by John Deere, and the sprayer returning to service without problems.

Rounding out the six-figure results at $102,000 was a 2007 John Deere 9530T track tractor with 3,806 hours, fitted with 36-inch Camoplast Durabuilt 3500 tracks, AutoTrac readiness, four remotes, CAT 5 HD wide-swing drawbar on rollers, radar with dual-beam sensor, instructional seat, and Field Vision Xenon HID lighting package front and rear.

Eventually, bidding dropped a tier, with 38 items going for five figures. Leading those at $90,500 was a 2023 John Deere DB60 24R30 planter with 6,278 acres on the PUK and 24,000 acres on the 2013 DB60 bar. It featured JD Link hardware, variable-rate seed drive, PTO, plus upgrades like ExactEmerge, Tru-Vee openers with single walking spoke-gauge wheels, individual-row hydraulic downforce, pneumatically controlled closing-wheel frame, pneumatic regular row cleaners, regular parallel arms, ExactEmerge corn bowl, and cast-iron closing wheels.

Implements filled the five-figure range, like two late-model Unverferth 3750 Seed Runners with scales hammered at $20,800 and $20,700. Later, a Deere 2210 34-foot-6-inch field cultivator brought $17,500, and a 2021 Westfield MKX 100-83 swing-away auger with 540 PTO went for $16,100.

In another category, a 2007 CAT 320DLH excavator with unlisted hours brought $75,200. It had a 48-inch bucket, 30-inch AIM hydraulic thumb, 50,000-pound operating weight and 22-foot digging depth. A 2007 CAT 420E backhoe with 4,142 hours followed at $47,600. The four-wheel-drive Extendahoe featured a 24-inch rear bucket and 4-in-1 front bucket.

Four semis bid in this range, topped by $24,300 for a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia 125 with 284,048 miles. The rig had a Detroit DD13 diesel engine, DT-12 automatic transmission, two aluminum front wheels, four aluminum and four steel rear wheels, and a fixed fifth wheel. $16,700 won a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia 113 with 484,041 miles, powered by a Detroit DD13 and a 10-speed Eaton manual transmission. It sat on two aluminum front and eight steel rear wheels. Another similarly equipped 2015 Cascadia 113, with 480,055 miles, went for $16,600.

Five trailers followed, led by a 2020 Wilson Model DWH-600 hopper bottom trailer that fetched $36,800. The 34-foot-by-72-inch-by-96-inch unit offered air ride, agricultural hoppers, Wilson strap doors, electric tarp, plus four aluminum and four steel wheels. A second similarly equipped 2020 Wilson hopper bottom came close at $34,400.

Buyers continued to score useful pieces, even when bidding dropped another notch. A good-condition 1991 GMC TopKick dump truck with 104,567 miles and 6,438 hours got $8,400. It sported a V-8 gasoline engine, automatic transmission, tandem twin-screw configuration, and Heil HPT 10-yard D13 metal dump bed. Bids hit $7,750 on a Brandt 1537LP+ grain belt with 10-hp motor, while $5,950 won a 2004 Kongskilde grain vac with pipes and a big 1000 PTO.

Even bids in the hundreds secured good equipment, like a DMI Big Little No. 5 gravity wagon selling for $800, a 1978 Bollinger tilt-top trailer bringing $775, and a Snyder 3-point, 3-gallon sprayer with 10-foot boom and hydraulic-drive pump for $675.
