OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. said it’s selling 12 grain elevators in northwestern Iowa and western Tennessee to The Andersons, Inc.

Green Plains, which is based in Omaha, said the sale of 32.6 million bushels of capacity is 83 percent of the company’s reported agribusiness grain storage capacity, plus all of its agronomy and retail petroleum operations. The estimated sale price is $133.1 million, including the assumption of about $28.3 million in debt.

Green Plains CEO Todd Becker said the company will retain its grain-handling assets and anticipates future storage expansions at or near its Nebraska ethanol plants in Central City and Ord.

The Andersons is based in Maumee, Ohio. The company is involved in the grain, ethanol and plant nutrient sectors, turf and cob products and consumer retailing.

BLUFFTON, Ind. (AP) — A developer has gained approval to build a wind farm with 87 turbines that some living in the rural area of northeastern Indiana had fought.

The plans from Virginia-based Apex Wind Energy call for the 479-foot-tall turbine towers to be built in the southern part of Wells County by the end of next year. The Journal Gazette reported the Wells County Plan Commission endorsed the project this month after the company made numerous changes to the plans it first submitted last year.

Plan commission Director Mike Lautzenheiser said residents who opposed the project dropped their court challenge after Apex agreed to modify the plan. Those changes include increasing the minimum distance between a turbine and a non-participating home from 1,000 to 1,200 feet and tighter noise rules.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Google is investing another $200 million in its Council Bluffs data center operations as it invests $75 million in a wind farm in central Iowa.

The Des Moines Register said Google announced the additional investment in the data center earlier this month at a Statehouse news conference. The Mountain View-Calif.-based tech giant has an existing $600 million data center it announced in 2007. In April, Google said it would build a $300 million data center near the existing campus. The latest announcement would add $200 million to that new site.

Google said it was investing $75 million in the Rippey Wind Farm in Greene County as part of its effort to encourage development of cleaner energy sources. Google’s investment in Iowa now stands at $1.1 billion.
