Hoosier governor OKs board appointments
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Gov. Mitch Daniels recently made appointments to statewide boards and commissions. Those related to agriculture include:

The Indiana State Fair Commission establishes policy and procedure for the year-round operations at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Reappointments are Susan A. Hayhurst of Terre Haute, co-owner of Hayhurst Farm (and occasional Farm World correspondent), and Ted A. McKinney of Indianapolis, senior director of global corporate affairs at Eli Lilly & Co. Terms expire Sept. 30, 2013.

The Indiana State Fair Board’s responsibilities involve conducting the annual Indiana State Fair. The appointment is LeeAnn Eizinger of Rochester, paraprofessional at Rochester High School, and a reappointment is Steven L. Patterson of Brownsburg, manager of quality control for Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance. Their terms expire Sept. 30, 2013.

The Indiana Soil Conservation Board guidance and coordination to the state’s 92 soil and water conservation districts as they provide local leadership in the protection of Indiana’s soil and water resources. Appointments include Scott A. Ham of New Albany, manager at Silver Creek Water Corp., and Brett Glick of Columbus, a farmer at Glick Farms. Their terms expire on June 30, 2010, and 2011, respectively.

The Indiana Pesticide Review Board develops policies and regulations while also serving in the formal appeal process for grievances. Appointments include Gregory R. Campbell of La Porte, licensed pesticide applicator at Hatfield Pest Control, and Michael L. Titus of Flora, licensed pesticide applicator at Excel Co-op, Inc. Their terms expire Jan. 1, 2012.

The governor’s reappointments to the board, which expire Jan. 1, 2011, include Raymond Brinkmeyer of Indianapolis, state regulatory Leader for Dow AgroSciences; Larry Clemens of Angola, conservation director for the Nature Conservancy; Ricky Foster of Rossville, professor of pest management and coordinator of Purdue University extension for the Department of Entomology; Ronald Hellenthal of South Bend, aquatic ecologist at Notre Dame University; and Kevin Underwood of West Lafayette, farmer and president of the Tippecanoe County Farm Bureau.

The reappointments which expire Jan. 1, 2013, include Julia Tipton Hogan of Indianapolis, who represents consumers and is the community outreach coordinator for the Indiana Perinatal Network; Robert Andrews of Carmel, licensed pesticide applicator at The Greenskeeper, Inc.; Bruce Bordelon of Lafayette, plant pathologist at Purdue; Stephen Dlugosz of Indianapolis, weed scientist at Agriliance; and Tim Gibb of West Lafayette, Purdue extension entomologist.

The Indiana Natural Resources Foundation’s purpose is to promote, support, assist, sustain and encourage the programs, projects and policies of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The appointment is William D. Ditzler of Mishawaka, president and CEO of JFNew & Associates, Inc. in Walkerton. His term expires July 1, 2012.

Zwagerman a scholar with Drake Ag Law Center

DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake University and Faegre & Benson LLP are pleased to announce the firm is launching a Visiting Scholar Program in collaboration with Drake University’s Agricultural Law Center. Faegre & Benson attorney Jennifer Williams Zwagerman, an alumnus of Drake University Law School, has been chosen as the first Visiting Scholar.

Zwagerman is qualified for this appointment given her practice in the arena of food, agriculture and agribusiness litigation, as well as holding a LL.M in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas School of Law. She will teach on subjects within her practice area for the 2010-11 academic year.
