Eat chocolate cake while you can afford it, says I

Skinny Cooks Can't Be Trusted
By Dave Kessler

Due to poor harvests in Ghana and the Ivory Coast, world chocolate prices have more than doubled in the past two years. Now a man by the name of Anthony Ward, who manages a hedge fund in England, has cornered the market in cocoa beans.

Mr. Ward just paid out $1 billion for 240,000 tons of cocoa beans and has had them delivered to his storage facilities. In 2006 he bought almost that amount of cocoa beans and made a $60 million profit.

Mr. Ward is going to stick it to the chocolate lovers of the world, and you and I are going to be spending more or eating less of this delightful food. What to do?

Eat all the chocolate you can as soon as possible. I just sold my couch to make room and am going to fill the family room full of chocolate. Stack it from floor to ceiling before the price goes up. It will be better than money in the bank. (At least it will taste better, anyway.)

Triple Hot Fudge Cake
1/2 gallon chocolate ice cream
1 box devil’s food cake mix
3 eggs
1-1/3 cups water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
16-ounce jar chocolate hot fudge topping

Let the chocolate ice cream soften a little, then pack in into square plastic freezer containers with lids. Place it back into the freezer to set up firm.

Mix together the cake mix and bake as directed as a sheet cake;
let cool. Slice the cake into squares the same size as the freezer container into which you’ve placed the ice cream. Also slice horizontally.

Dip the freezer container of ice cream into some warm water so the ice cream will slide out in a block. Slice it into squares.

Place a cake square on a plate, top it with a square of chocolate ice cream, then put another cake square on top of it. Cover with plastic wrap and return to the freezer until ready to serve.

Place the fudge topping in a microwave safe bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and heat a few seconds so you’ll have hot fudge. Spread a spoon or two of this over each cake and ice cream square to have a delicious triple dose of chocolate.

You can add whipped cream and a maraschino cherry if you wish to make it look like a showpiece dessert. Appreciate and enjoy it now before the price goes out of sight and your days of enjoying chocolate are just fond memories.
