Lee Rulon

Lee Roy Rulon, 64, a leader in the agricultural industry, the Hamilton County, Ind. community and Beck’s Hybrids, died on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010.
Rulon is credited with building the sales department of Beck’s Superior Hybrids from the ground up starting in August 1972. He personally selected every member of Beck’s sales and marketing staff, along with many employees in other departments.
His titles at Beck’s included sales manager, marketing director, and most recently, director of sales recruitment/chief sales and marketing advisor. Under his guidance, Beck’s sales grew to make them the largest family-owned seed company in the United States.
He also participated as a part owner of Rulon Enterprises farming operation near Arcadia.
Born Dec. 24, 1945, Rulon was the son of Lester and Ruth Oleva (Dresher) Rulon. He was the youngest of three boys.
His two brothers attended Purdue University’s School of Agriculture; however, after graduating from Walnut Grove High School in 1963, Rulon decided to go to the University of Kentucky (UK) where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in finance. While at UK, Rulon met Kathy Ann (Manyet) Rulon, whom he married on Aug. 13, 1966. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Joe Mangas, Arcadia, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Gavin and Tamara Rulon, Arcadia, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carol Rulon, Cicero, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Belinda Rulon, Atlanta, Ind.
In addition to his parents, Rulon was preceded in death by his brother, Doyle K. Rulon.
Rulon devoted tireless energy, enthusiasm and vision to many organizations, including: President of the Indiana Seed Trade Assoc., Board of Directors of the Indiana Crop Improvement Assoc., International Committee of the American Seed Trade Assoc., Board of Directors of the Indiana Grain Indemnity Board, Cicero Police Department Board, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board, as well as serving as a member or chairman of many other organizations and committees.
His friends said all who knew him were truly blessed. They said that Rulon’s smile was always present and contagious. His life was dedicated to overcoming all obstacles by innovating and adapting while always remembering to think.
Funeral services were Saturday morning, Nov. 13 at the Cicero Christian Church with the Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Kurt Bandell offered the eulogy. Burial followed the services at the Arcadia Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Hartley Funeral Home’s Cicero Chapel.
