USDA names Wickard FSA Indiana director
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Obama Administration announced that Julia Wickard will serve as Indiana State executive director for the USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA).

Wickard is executive vice president for the Indiana Beef Cattle Assoc. and Indiana Beef Council, a post she has held since 2005. In this role she directs agricultural and beef initiatives throughout the state. Wickard has worked for a variety of Indiana-based agricultural and environmental groups since 1995 and has extensive knowledge of farming issues.

She is actively involved in many community groups and agricultural organizations. In 1998 Wickard completed the Indiana Agricultural Leadership Program and is currently a managing partner for her family farm. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science from Purdue University.

Niblack receives Wyffels Hybrids Award
GENESEO, Ill. — Wyffels Hybrids is pleased to announce Dr. Terry L. Niblack as recipient of the 2009 Wyffels Hybrids Award for Faculty Excellence at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Niblack is a professor of soybean cyst nematode management and extension at the UoI Department of Crop Sciences. She has spent eight years with the department and educates students in nematology with emphasis on the biology and management of the soybean cyst nematode (SCN). Her research addresses many issues in nematode management, including work leading to new or revised recommendations for management of SCN in Illinois.

The award, established in 2004, focuses on the pursuit of innovative methods to improve crop and livestock production, a lifelong focus for William Wyffels Sr. and Alma Wyffels. This award is presented annually to a crop sciences faculty member, recognizing excellence in the areas of teaching and advising, research, extension and outreach and public service.

Von Stein earns real estate license
COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. — Craig von Stein has become a licensed real estate agent and is specializing in farm real estate and equipment auctions in the Ohio area. He joins Kevin Wendt with The Wendt Group, an affiliate of Schrader Real Estate & Auction, Co., Inc. located in Columbia City.

Von Stein is a 2008 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural business. A Jenera, Ohio, native, he grew up on a family hog and grain farm and was involved in 4-H, FFA and the collegiate National Agri-Marketing Assoc.

New president named at Kubota
TORRANCE, Calif. — Kubota Corp. has named Satoshi Iida as new president of Kubota Tractor Corp., based in Torrance, Calif. Iida has been with Kubota for 29 years and served in the company’s engineering, utility tractor and construction equipment divisions. Iida follows Tetsuji “Mike” Tomita, who was named Kubota’s division president, Farm and Industrial Machinery Consolidated Division, and general manager International Operations Headquarters, in Osaka, Japan.
