Seeking soy growers for 100 Bushels Club
PRINCETON, Ky. — The Missouri Soybean Assoc. (MSA) is announcing a new club – the 100 Bushels Club.

Farmers across the nation are encouraged to keep an eye on their yield monitors this fall, especially in fields where production may be pushing triple digits.

Inductees of the club will be honored at the Commodity Classic in Anaheim, Calif., in 2010. There they will receive an elite 100 Bushels Club blazer.

Farmers who believe their fields may be capable of bearing yields of 100 bushels per acre should call their state soybean association office or the 100 Bushels Club at 573-821-6240 for guidelines and to arrange for proper judging and verification.

Green Exchange Holdings names Lewis CEO
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Green Exchange Holdings LLC, a consortium of leading financial and environmental companies, announced that it has appointed Thomas Lewis as its CEO. He will lead Green Exchange Holdings’ global growth through the creation of an efficient international marketplace for futures and options contracts based on environmental commodities.

In addition, Lewis will guide Green Exchange LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Green Exchange Holdings, through the regulatory process for designation as a designated contract market with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The venture will also seek recognition from overseas regulators.

NSF International acquires Surefish
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — NSF International, a not-for-profit public health and safety organization that has been providing inspection and certification services to the food industry for more than 65 years, announced the acquisition of Surefish, Inc., a seafood quality specialist and provider of independent seafood inspections and expert consultations.

NSF International and Surefish, Inc., the largest Marine Stewardship Certification leader in North America, together will help improve the safety and quality of the seafood supply for retail and foodservice industries.

NSF International is the only North American certifier accredited by the American National Standards Institute for Safe Quality Foods (SQF) and British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The company will be branded NSF Surefish and will integrate certification experience and seafood expertise to provide comprehensive services at each step in the supply chain.

In addition, the Aquaculture Certification Council, a nonprofit that implements the Global Aquaculture Alliance Best Aquaculture Practices standard, recently selected NSF to be one of two initial certification organizations to conduct standard inspections.
NSF Surefish will combine this expertise with other industry leading certifications to Global Food Safety Initiative-benchmarked standards, which include SQF, BRC and Food Safety System Certification.

NCGA seeks Corn Board nominees
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — The National Corn Growers Assoc. (NCGA) Nominating Committee invites members to become an integral part of the organization’s leadership by applying for NCGA Corn Board positions.

The Corn Board represents the organization on all matters while directing both policy and supervising day-to-day operations. Board members serve the organization in a variety of ways. Applications are due Jan. 15, 2010.

Nominated candidates will be introduced at the February 2010 Corn Congress meeting, held in conjunction with the Commodity Classic in Anaheim, Calif.

Corn Board members will be elected at the July 2010 Corn Congress in Washington, D.C., and the new terms begin Oct. 1.

12 communities awarded forestry grants
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Agriculture recently awarded nearly $93,000 in urban forestry grants.
The grants are to be used in resource conservation planning and management.

The grants were approved after a review by state urban forestry officials and the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council grant review committee. Urban forestry grants are used by cities, communities and nonprofits for projects such as hiring urban foresters, conducting educational programs and tree inventories or for tree planting.

The recipients include: the cities of Clarksville, Crossville and Bartlett; Nashville Public Works/Metro Tree Advisory Committee; Cumberland River Compact; Knoxville Kingston Pike-Sequoyah Hill Assoc.; the University of Memphis; Tennessee Tech University School of Agriculture; First Presbyterian Church Community Arboretum in Jackson; city of Milan Public Utilities; Nashville State Community College; and the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council.
