Walsh named Mentor Of The Year MOORESVILLE, Indiana — The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) named Kellie Walsh Clean Cities’ Mentor of the Year. For the last eight years, she has served as executive director for the Central Indiana Clean Cities Alliance, Inc. (CICCA), a Clean Cities coalition. In that time, she assisted CICCA stakeholders in securing over $13 million in federal and state funds for the implementation of alternative fuel projects in the public and private sectors. In 2008, under Walsh’s leadership, CICCA reduced petroleum consumption in Indiana by 1.4 million GGE.
In partnership with the Indiana Office of Energy Development, she also facilitated a multi-state effort for the Interstate 65 Corridor Project, which makes E85 public refueling infrastructure available over an 800-mile stretch of highway for drivers of flex fuel vehicles. Over the years, Walsh has received numerous awards and was one of six recent finalists for Clean Cities Coordinator of the Year.
Angus delegates elect board members LOUISVILLE, Ky. — American Angus Assoc. (AAA) delegates elected five members to its board of directors at the 126th annual Convention of Delegates.
Newly elected directors include Charlie Boyd II, Mayslick, Ky.; Scott Foster, Niles, Mich.; and Vaughn Meyer, Reva, S.D. Steve Olson, Hereford, Texas, and Cathy Watkins, Middletown, Ind., were both elected to a second term.
Bill Davis of Sidney, Mont., was elected AAA president and chairman of the board. He succeeds Jay King of Rock Falls, Ill.
Joe Hampton of Mount Ulla, N.C., was chosen to serve as vice president and vice chairman of the board. Jarold Callahan of Edmond, Okla., will serve as treasurer for the year.
Rollings fills NGFA public policy staff post WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Grain and Feed Assoc. (NGFA) announced the selection of Eleanor E. Rollings to fill the newly created position of manager of public policy relations.
The position was established to provide additional staff support to address the NGFA’s expanding legislative and public policy agenda, and to further enhance the association’s effectiveness in mobilizing member companies to weigh in with legislators and policymakers on issues directly affecting their businesses.
Rollings comes from the Washington-based consulting firm of Strategic Conservation Solutions LLC. Rollings worked on a variety of public policy issues, including climate change, renewable energy, the 2008 farm bill and agricultural homeland security issues. A native of San Diego, Calif., Rollings was an intern with the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign in Missouri and is a graduate of San Diego State University, with a degree in political science.
Miller named GROWMARK director, propane BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Randy Miller has been named GROWMARK director of propane operations, effective Dec. 1.
He has a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness from Illinois State University. He has held various positions in the GROWMARK Energy Division, most recently, propane supply manager. In his new role, Miller will be responsible for the overall management of propane supply and risk management.
Thompson directing Middle Tenn. research KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture has named Kevin Thompson the new director of the Middle Tennessee and Dairy Research and Education Centers. He will assume his new role in January 2010.
Thompson has most recently served as the director of Producer Genetics for Tennessee Livestock Producers (TLP), Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation in Columbia.
There he facilitated the Tennessee Beef Alliance and established Tennessee’s largest bull-leasing program for the TLP.
He received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal science from UT, and worked as a research associate at the Middle Tennessee Research and Education Center (MTREC) for six years. He was responsible for supervision of beef cattle research and the Central Bull Testing facility.
Thompson will be responsible for the management of both facilities, including supervising the execution of research plans developed by UTIA faculty. He is replacing retiring director Dr. Dennis Onks, who had served as MTREC director for the past 12 years and Dairy REC director for the past two.
GROWMARK announces Agronomy changes BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Changes in the GROWMARK Agronomy Division resulted in two employee promotions.
Effective Dec. 1, Jeff Lynch rotated from his position as manager of facility operations to agronomy business manager. This expands the agronomy business management function to include sales and facility administrative support responsibilities.
Effective on the same date, Jim Kelly expanded his role beyond business development projects to now include leadership of facility operations and staff. |
