Indiana church works to spread God’s Good News
WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Hickman Heights Christian Church is located in rural Warren County, Ind., near the town of Williamsport.
The church was organized in 1912. The original church was built in 1914 and served well until the congregation’s size began to exceed the building.

After much prayer and planning, a new church was approved and built in 1988 with much volunteer labor from the talented members. Average worship attendance is 80.

The church has been pastored by a full-time minister since 1980. Prior to that, part-time ministers from the local area and Lincoln Christian College met the needs of the congregation. Sunday School classes are important at Hickman Heights and currently three adult classes and four youth classes are offered weekly.
A team of elders, deacons, trustees and volunteers provide leadership for the church. Several committees are doing the Lord’s work, such as the Benevolence, Worship/Planning Committee and the Mission Committee.

The church supports four missions: International Disaster Emergency Services, Hanging Rock Christian Camp, Pine Village Food Pantry and Taking Christ to the Millions.

In addition, local families have needs met by the activities of the Mission Committee. The local Habitat for Humanity chapter has had directors from Hickman Heights and helped build several homes.
Youth activities include Vacation Bible School, weekly children’s programs, a quarterly Kids’ Sermon, a weekly youth program for grades 1-6 and biweekly Junior High/High School Youth Group activities.

A Christmas program is presented each year, with the youth serving as the principal actors and the choir providing music.

Graduates from grades 6, 12 and college are honored each year with a reception and gift.

Quarterly church service and communion are provided to the residents of the nearby County Home. The Good News is also spread throughout the community via a county 4-H fair booth. Welcome baskets are prepared and delivered to those new to the community.

Special events, such as an All Daughters Banquet, Hunters’ Lunch and holiday dinners are also enjoyed by the congregation and the community. Each fall, a special Homecoming weekend is planned with a guest speaker, cookout, carry-in dinner and games or a special activity such as a tractor show.

Music is an important part of church life. The choir is active and provides inspirational music at many services, including the Warren County 4-H Fair Vespers Service. An instrumental worship team also routinely provides worship through music. A group of talented piano players and keyboardists also provide accompaniment during weekly worship service.

Hickman Heights Christian Church continues to love and serve the Lord in a farming community. We are blessed to have a fellowship of devoted Christians who live and work in Warren County to spread the news of God’s love.
