Farm Credit scholarship deadline approaching
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Feb. 26 deadline is fast approaching for applications for Farm Credit Services of Mid-America (FCS) scholarships.

FCS, a $16 billion agricultural lending cooperative serving farmers, agribusinesses and rural residents in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee, is committed to educational success and is offering scholarships to college students enrolled in agricultural programs. Thirty-six scholarships – ranging in value from $1,000 to $1,500 – will be awarded to children of members of Farm Credit. This is in addition to awarding over $60,000 in scholarships to students attending universities with ag colleges as well as the 4-H and FFA, bringing FCS’s total scholarship investment to over $100,000 annually.

Through an initiative endorsed by the Farm Credit board, the scholarships are part of the cooperative’s stewardship program which involves returning greater value to rural America by increasing the association’s investment in education and youth activities.
The scholarships are available to members, their dependents and spouses of the ag lending cooperative. Scholarships will be awarded in April based on academic record, leadership qualities, and community involvement.  To apply, go online to www.e-farmcredit.com and click on Community Support to download the application.  Or call 1-800-444-3276 to talk the closest office about obtaining an application.

GREENFIELD, Ind. — The Eastern Hancock Agricultural Sciences Department in conjunction with Veterinary Care and Consultation will be conducting a bull breeding soundness examination day on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Eastern Hancock Life Science Facility. Bulls should be at least 12 months of age.

The purpose of this exam will allow producers for a minimal fee of $30 to have their animals tested for fertility soundness before the upcoming breeding season. The testing will be completed onsite.

Parkway FFA annual fruit sale dubbed a success
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Parkway FFA members throughout the month of November were selling fruit to the public. The sale consisted of apples, navels, tangelos, grapefruit, BBQ Sauce, peanuts, and many other things that appealed to many people. The fruit was received in the middle of December and was packaged in the next two days. It was then delivered to the customers within the week, or even that day. The members are still taking in their money if you have not paid for your fruit.

For the Parkway FFA Chapter, there were 753.5 boxes sold. This amounts to approximately $19,800 dollars brought in through this fundraiser. This sale is up 64 boxes from last year, but still not the top selling year.

The Parkway FFA Chapter uses these funds to pay for many activities and events that the students experience throughout the year. Some of these events are state and national convention, CDE events, officer retreat, furnishing the fair food stand, and many other opportunities that teach students lessons and give them memories.
