Views and opinions: Not giving up is the best course - but it’s not easy

Frustrated with her progress in physical therapy, this young woman told me she would probably never be able to walk without assistance again. I knew this was hogwash and it was the frustration talking, but she believed it. I told her to just keep working and one day she would see a breakthrough.

How many times have you been ready to throw in the towel and then suddenly you found yourself on the other side of the obstacle, looking back with a thankful perspective that you didn’t give up when you really wanted to?

How many times have you looked at a task and knew you could never do it and, as you eased into it, inch by inch, suddenly you found yourself nearly finished? Is your neck sore from looking up at a mountain and wondering how you will ever climb it?

This happens to all of us at one point or other. Life can be frustrating, but the focal point here is that we really need to envision ourselves on the other side of this pain, or obstacle or task – on the other side of this fight with our spouse, on the other side of this financial setback or on the other side of this job that is too complicated for our comprehension.

At this moment you have no idea how you will get through the next 10 minutes, let alone the next 10 days. But I’m here to tell you, you will.

You will.

You will move forward, one step at a time, because of the grace that is afforded you. Have you ever heard the saying, “But by the grace of God go I?” That’s how you will get through it, drowning in God’s overflowing grace.

We deserve so many other things than the life we are living, but yet, by God’s grace that is flowing through a believer’s veins, we continue to face hardship, disappointment, obstacles and failure and we get through it with a win on the other side.

Countless are the situations that looked impossible, but we have survived to talk about them. Countless are the scars we have to show for the battles we’ve been through, but by the grace of God we are healed. And if you think you will get through life without a few disappointments, failures and impossible situations, then you haven’t lived long enough or you live under a rock.

Maybe you’re struggling with a situation that makes it hard to get to sleep at night, and waking up to reality is no picnic either. Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.

Make adjustments, refocus, reload and go again, knowing that you are just a whisper away from a breakthrough – if you do not give up.
