Indiana farmers benefit from low-interest loan program<br>
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Farm Credit Services of Mid-America (FCS) has joined forces with the Indiana State Treasurer’s office to distribute up to $25 million in low-interest rate loans to Hoosier livestock operators.<br>
The reduced interest rate financing program, called the Treasurer’s Agricultural Loan Program (TALP), offers interest rates as low as 3.5 percent to help livestock farmers with the costs associated with their operations including feed, labor and production-related energy.<br>
The funds are disbursed through select financial institutions throughout the state, including FCS.<br>
Indiana livestock farmers whose annual gross sales are $250,000 or less are eligible for the low-interest rate program.

Alltech growth leads to new facilities in United States<br>
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Alltech, a global leader in animal health and nutrition, has continued to grow at a rate that has made it necessary to expand its facilities in North America. In 2007, the company opened three new regional facilities, made enormous strides on a new research facility and announced its plans for a state-of-the-art rural community biorefinery.<br>
Last year, the company cut the ribbon on two new facilities in Georgia and South Dakota. The seven-acre site in Georgia houses a quality assurance laboratory and distribution warehouse, while the South Dakota office sits on 27 acres and is home to a ruminant physiology laboratory, distribution warehouse and manufacturing facility. Alltech also opened a biotechnology production facility and warehouse in New Mexico.<br>
In addition, Alltech has expanded the facilities at its corporate headquarters in Lexington, with the addition of the Center for Animal Nutrigenomics and Applied Animal Nutrition. The facility will give researchers the ability to examine nutrition at the genetic level, studying the impact of nutrition on the gene.<br>
In October, the company learned that it would receive funding from the commonwealth to create a rural community biorefinery in Springfield, Ky. This is the first such model in North America that integrates feed, food and fuel production.  In addition to ethanol production, the biorefinery will provide value-added products through secondary fermentation.<br>
Since it was founded 28 years ago, the company has developed a strong regional presence throughout the world, with 1,800 employees and a presence in 113 countries.<br>

Valmont gives performance dealer award in Hoosier State<br>

VALLEY, Neb. — Valmont Irrigation announced that Carlisle Valley Irrigation, Inc. in Carlisle, Ind., earned a Performance Dealer designation in Sales and Aftermarket Parts for outstanding performance in support to its mechanized irrigation customers.
The Performance Program focuses on the recognition of dealers as they strive to meet the ever-increasing and changing needs of production agriculture. Carlisle Valley accepted the award during the North American Dealer Conference.<br>

Unity Seeds adds staff and continues Purdue internships<br>
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Underscoring its continued growth in the seed corn market, Unity Seeds has recently hired three full-time sales associates and continues to expand the number of interns it hosts from Purdue University.<br>
Joining the Unity team are Megan Carrier, a 2007 Purdue graduate with a degree in Agricultural Sales and Marketing; Mark Stout, a 2004 Wabash College graduate with a degree in Agronomy from Purdue; and Robert Hasser, a Purdue alumni with a background in agricultural financial services.<br>
Meanwhile, six Purdue University students gain experience through internships with Unity’s business development team.<br>
Unity Ag Direct, Inc. is a family business selling corn, alfalfa and sorghum seed under the Unity Seeds trademark directly to farmers from its national sales and agronomic center in West Lafayette.<br>
