PERRYSVILLE, Ind. — An LG Seeds hybrid earned the highest yield during the early-season seed trial conducted in Fountain County, Ind. recently.

LG Seeds LG2555VT3 produced 234.6 bushels per acre at the test on the farm of Dennis Hughs of rural Perrysville. The hybrid has an estimated gross income of $1,067.50, and its moisture level was 24 percent.

The seed test was by Farmer’s Independent Research of Seed Technologies (F.I.R.S.T.) of Chadwick, Ill. The field was planted on May 5 at a rate of 32,000 seeds per acre. Approximately 31,600 plants per acre were harvested on Oct. 22.

The soil conditions on the farm were a silty clay loam with a .5 percent slope. The field was well drained.

Generally, F.I.R.S.T. test site manager Rich Schleuning said that the test was good.

“This location had a rough start with a cold, wet spring, but it delivered a great final yield,” Schleuning said.

“Overall, plant health was good with a lot of green stalks at harvest. There was some stalk rot present as indicated by a pinch test of the stalk.”

Finishing second in this test was Heritage hybrid 4484RR2/YGPL at 230.2 bu./acre. Other top performers include Crows 4799VT3, 226.2 bu./ acre; Stine 9624VT3, 225.4 bu./acre; and Select RR308F8, 224.8 bu./acre.

Late-season test

Three DeKalb hybrids scored the top-three places in the late-season test at the Perrysville site. For this test, 32,000 seeds per acre were planted on May 5, and 30,800 plants per acre were harvested on Oct. 22.

DeKalb DKC 61-69 won the test with a 244 bu./acre yield. DeKalb DKC 64-24 was second at 241.2 bu./acre, and DeKalb DKC 61-19 finished third at 239.4 bu./acre.

Other top performers in the late-season trial were: Great Lakes 6321G3VT3, 238.2; Heritage 4686VT3, 234.5; and Trisler T-7N88VT3, 234.1.
