BOAH awards staff, reappoints Marsh

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — During Indiana’s quarterly Board of Animal Health meeting last week, State Veterinarian Bret Marsh recognized agency staff for their outstanding years of service and dedication to the state’s livestock industry.

In the meat and poultry division, Roger Wright was recognized for 20 years of service with a certificate. Also for 20 years, Jeffrey Buckley in the meat and poultry division was awarded for his service. For 25 years of service to BOAH, Paula Iverson was recognized and awarded with a certificate.

In addition to recognizing staff members for their service, Marsh was recently reappointed as state veterinarian by the Board.
“Dr. Marsh is the best state veterinarian in the country, everybody wants him and we’ve got him here,” said Veterinarian Lawrence Stauffer, who serves on the Board.

Also, swine Veterinarian John Baker was elected as the new chairperson of the board as Veternarian Bruce McDavitt stepped down. Sheep producer Pearce McKinney was named as the new co-chairperson and beef producer Clark Sennett was elected as the hearing officer.

In closing, Doug Metcalf, chief of staff for BOAH, mentioned to the Board that the agency is considering moving to a new location as the lease on the westside Indianapolis office will be up in June of 2009. Metcalf opened up discussion to seek imput on the Board’s preference to either stay at the current location, a different location on the west side or possibly move downtown.

In the end, the Board made a motion to encourage BOAH’s consideration of its constiuents by operating out of a location that is easily accessible and provides convenient parking.
