The 2009 winners were recognized for their work to preserve their barns, and each received a plaque bearing an engraved image of the barn.

The Loeb Barn at Castle Farms, Charlevoix, owned by Richard and Linda Mueller, received an Outstanding Preservation Practices Award. The Muellers have renamed the barn the King and Queen Castle Building.

The Pride & Country Village Barn, owned by Wayne Thomas and Barb Schian of Saginaw, was named the Commercial Adaptive Reuse Award winner. It has grown from a craft shop into a village of shops, including a deli, a country store, a design center and a boutique.

Bradford Dairy Farms, Inc., owned by Keith and Linda (Bradford) Anderson of Sparta, received an Adaptive Family Reuse Award. The barn is no longer used for cattle; the Andersons plan to use it for barn dances.
